i have been using acid 3.0 for about 6 months now and have made some pretty cool stuff, but when i burn them to a cd, they dont really sound that good, they sound kinda flat and dull. Anything i can do in soundforge? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using any of the effects? When you try and master your tracks, compare them to a CD of music that you want your music to sound like. I hope this makes sense.

Luck,
Kai

Hi,

Do you any plug ins e.g compressors? They help create a better mix. Lots of freeware available on the net.

Hmmm. I'm a little confused as to why that should happen. We're talking about digital reproduction here. The track on the CD should be absolutely identical to what you hear while playing it in ACID.

What do you use to listen to music that you play on your computer?
What do you use to listen to the CDs you create?

If you're using a cheap boombox to listen to the CD, then i would say it's the fault of the boombox and not the CD creation process. But then again, most people have less than wonderful speakers connected to the computer. Hmmmm.

Here's a tip. If you got 3.0 than you must have at least Soundforge XP 5.0. If so try opening up your mix/wav file in Soundforge XP and then go to PROCESS > and choose Normalize from the drop down menu. You should have a factory preset option that says "Maximize Peak Value". Initiate that plug-in and you will see your audio file swell up increasing the amplitude without clipping or distortion. Don't use the volume feature on the process menu as you will run into the possibilty of clipping your mix, then your songs will sound worse. Hope this helps.

I agree with Chienworks....it's a digital recording - shouldn't loose any quality from acid to your CD. UNLESS -

Are you making an Audio CD or MP3?
Are you making a WAV file first (and saving it with the proper Mhz setting)?

If your WAV file is lower than it should be...then you may loose quality there - but if you are doing a straight data dump to a WAV file - then burning to an audio CD...then it has to be your listening source (Boom box vs PC sound card, etc).

Lastly, when you listen to acid files (or WAV files) on your PC - there is a separate sound controller than that of Audio CDs. You may want to check those settings if you are noticing the sound difference coming from your PC.

Hope that helps.
