My newphew passed away recently and his mother would really like a copy of a video he posted on youtube singing a song he wrote. Can someone tell me how I can rip this video down to my computer so I can burn it to a DVD for her?
Thank you all for the great suggestions... my sister-in-law and I really appreciate it... (and no we do not have administrative access to his youtube account).
One thing:
Downloading native mp4 from Youtube, it has always been necessary for me to run it through AVIDemux (Copy/Copy/MP4) before it will open in Vegas.
Reviving this thread . . . any new recommendations on the best tool for downloading from YouTube?
Way OT, but I bought some cake decorating tips to take to the Chuukese chefs who work in our galley. They have been doing an outstanding job all these years with ziplock bags and NO tips -- just holes cut in the ends. I want to make a short video of basic techniques so they have some ideas on how to use the tips.

Here's another solution using a different approach. Snagit, or any screen recording software that also captures audio, offers the ability to capture and save streaming video from websites employing video display tools that are unreadable to most download plug-ins Making these types of tools more flexible for various needs. They also offer limited video editing capabilities that let you annotate your captured videos.
I thought that I would give Snagit a go. The interface seems to be based on what do you want to do rather than what basic parameters that you can set. I prefer the latter.
I also saw a note that recording system audio is not supported in Win XP or Vista. I am amazed!
Another way, which I learnt ... from a video on youTube.
If you insert "ss" (without the quotes) immediately after "www." in the URL and press Enter, it will take you to a site called savefrom.net , which will have a list of various formats of the clip available for download. There are usually flashing pop-ups trying to lure you somewhere, but I ignore them.
Someone mentioned YouTube Downloader. It's now called YTD Video Downloader. Watch the install closely to make sure you're not selecting a toolbar or other nonsense. I use the free version quite often and it works very well.
