Maintaining z space scattershot 3D

Rory Cooper wrote on 6/12/2014, 4:13 AM
I have a project in which I am using a few masks tracks = multiplied for images.
So I animate the mask tracks using scattershot 3D = tracks are straight, so no problem yet.

So then i create a world parent and child all 3D tracks.
When I use the tracks as parent track for my mask and image track = copy keys from motion track to 3D parent track i am losing the Z space on the keys.

This is not because i have not selected 3D in my parent track = both motion and parent = selected 3D = CORRECT.

This is weird because if I set the project up manually no problem, The z space is lost in copy and paste from the 3D parent to 3D container for mask tracks = 12 of = all lost = x and y no problem.

Even if i swap the composite and mask from the bottom same issue

Apologies the z space is not being lost but altered = changed = not flat = not same plane as x.y but different position in relation to the x.y. after pasting keys

Ooo,...for goodness sake, I tried to reproduce it as a sample but now it works fine...I did the project twice last night and both times the z was out = i must have made the same mistake twice = what I don’t know? 38 tracks all in all one must have been out.

Vegas 10.

i too have found numerous bugs in my wetwear v.1.

i was hoping the manufacturer would have contacted me regarding where i could obtain v.2, but it seems he's gone out of business so i'm left with this buggy version which i don't think will last too much longer....

Rory, glad you got it resolved. Got a link? I'd be interested in seeing what you are working on.

I am using the Scattershot VASST script to animate the mask tracks then add the image track after the animation.

So I did this last night using mask tracks = old puzzle thing, same principle

I set up my mask position in the PNG and my images all to 1280 x 720 = everything matches and fits in Vegas no futtszing around
I have 12 tracks which are masks, Scattershot handles them very quickly = copy key and animate. For example matrix scatter set the colum 6 row 7 = offset and increment of 40. Make a key next change colum and row number will get the pieces to shift.

Rendered to a PNG image seq and used the sequence as a glow = all in Vegas no external plugs other than Scattershot 3D. Takes about 2 hours to animate and about an hour to pop the images in.

I did not select RESIZE = match project output in SCT 3D . so instead added a 3d track to resize all the masks as this will not cut off any images or animation when you zoom right back. Could be a mistake If this makes sense.

Rory - that's magnificent work - great to see some of the more 'esoteric' Vegas features being used so well!

Rory, you might want to correct the spelling before you hand it off to the client: "eudroit" should be spelled as "endroit".

Clever as always Rory. That is a creative way to use Scattershot and gives me some ideas for some of my projects. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks Peter, the more you work with Scattershot the more you get a feel and expand the application to fit your needs.

Merci beaucoup Rob, my French spelling is on par with my zulu and English spelling, yesterday I met a chap named Sipo, a common zulu name so I started chatting to him in my limited zulu and then he said he’s not Zulu but Shona...?..... and then started to explain the difference in spelling and pronunciation...?...?....so I am still in a state of heavy confusion that will last for a few weeks longer.

Jerry what helps is when you set up your masks for your tracks set them up in the exact position in your png/tiff with the alpha channel. so if in this instance I have 12 masks I set them up in Scattershot matrix as 1 row 1 column then animate and go back to 1 column and 1 row to get the puzzle set up straight.
Use the animated tracks as container track for the mask tracks drop the mask and image track into the 3D container track.

If anyone wants the puzzle pieces and veg give me a buzz roryc@tsogosun.com and i will send a zip file to you.
