Hitfilm light flare problem

Spawndn72 wrote on 4/28/2014, 11:49 AM
I am having problems with the light flare effect. I have tried adding it as an event fx and I have tried adding it as a media creator. If I add it as an event FX, I get a black screen instead of the clip with no light flares, I can see the 2 markers in the preview screen, but no light flares. If I add it as media, I get the same results, a black screen with no flares.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Would this tutorial (link given also in another thread by Markk655) help?

I assume you are trying to add one of the included HitFilm effects within MS 13, and not within the HitFilm program itself, as discussed in the mentioned tutorial.

Anyway, when you add an effect to an event, the "cursor" goes to the end of the effect and you get a black screen in the preview window. You have to move the cursor back over the event so that you can see the event itself, not just the black screen with the two "plus" signs and effect.

The effect control window should also open, and you can change or move the flare where you want it, set up keyframes, etc. You can also move the flare with your mouse or perhaps even with your finger if you have a touch screen.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Jillian, you are correct,l I am trying to to use the Hitfilm "light flare" effect in MS13. All of the other Hitfilm effects work just fine. It is only the light flare that I am having trouble with. If by cursor, you mean the cursor in the time line, then I have been moving it back over the event, if you mean something else, then please explain further.

Yes, I'm just referring to the line that marks where the play-head is located. I just opened MS 13, put a clip on the timeline, added the HitFilm Light Flare and it worked fine. I even tried some key-framing to see if that was working. No problem there. I could get the flare to change location and intensity over time.

It doesn't seem like a bad install, or a driver problem, if the other HitFilm effects are working, so I can't think of anything else to suggest.

I'm using Win 7 64bit and actually use MS 12 for editing. So, if you're using Win 8 or 8.1 you may see a different situation. Otherwise, I hope some one else can make a suggestion.

Thanks, looks like it is something on my end. I am using Windows 8.1 on an I7 with an Nvidia GTX 760 card if that helps anyone else help me.

Hi Spawndn72
I'm on the trial version of Vegas pro 13.
the light flare was working, but suddenly stopped. and I've been trying to find out why, until I remembered that the only thing I did is update my video card driver.
so I uninstalled the driver (NVIDIA v337.88 WHQL), went back to the previous version 335.23 WHQL and the Light flare is working again.
Hope this helps

I had the exact same issue as CCart. Updated my NVIDIA driver today to 337.88, and no more light flare. I was getting the same black screen with no flare like you originally described. Rolled back to 335.23 and it's back. I'm using Movie Studio Platinum 13.

It's worth looking into your video card driver to see if that may be causing your issue.

I'm so glad I bumped into this forum and your wisdom. I wrote Sony Creative customer support about this problem a few days back and I'm still waiting for an answer. I'm using Vegas Pro 13 and you are correct... I had to roll back my NVIDIA driver to 335.23 and voila! the light flares are back. Thank you sir!!!

I'm glad it was helpful to you :) and hope Sony or FXHome would take this into consideration and have it fixed to reflect the latest Video card updates.

FxHome, Hitfilm have made an update to solve this problem, but so far the problem still exist with me, whenever I update the video card the Light Flare disappears.
I've tried both ways, updating video card first then Hitfilm, and updating hitfilm then video card, both didn't work.
I even did from a restore file that I've backed up. to start from the scratch before the problem started, same thing
