State of the titler - Vegas 13?

I haven't done much with Vegas for a while because I've been busy in other areas of my life, but I'm now getting back into a video project. I'm running Vegas 9 and thinking about upgrading to 13.

Have they fixed the titler? I know that was one of the huge weaknesses with Vegas, and then they came out with a new add-on that was very powerful but also very counter-intuitive in its workflow and difficult to figure out.

So, my question is, does Vegas 13 have a better titler?

AFAIK the code for ProTitler has not changed one bit since VegasPro release 9.0e. And actually this is a good thing because it is an excellent tool, you experience an appropriate learning curve for such a tool, and all of the resources to make it happen are available.

In addition to my statement that it is a good thing - keep in mind that to fulfill other kinds of titling issues, the development of the NewBlue Titler series is a real welcome companion to the internal titlers. In other words it complements and extends these tools for you. In VegasPro13 you have the choice of the best which is TitlerPro3 by NewBlue Fx. $99 US.

In VP12 yet ANOTHER titler was included inside Vegas (rather than as an add-on like NBT). This additional titler lies somewhere between the standard Vegas titler and PTT.

I rarely use it as it is slows the preview to a crawl.

No. One of the glaring weaknesses of Vegas. Many half baked titlers with nothing even approaching something like Premiere's titler. I use Photoshop and export to PNG since there is a 2+ year old bug when making changes to Photoshop files on the timeline (you can't without closing Vegas). We can however edit 3D!

Demands and wishes of what a "good" titler should do differ a lot.
I would appreciate a titler which strictly fits typografical needs but it seems like on that side of the video market, where people are not willing to pay many thousand bucks for a titling system, there is not such a titler. Boris Graffiti and Sony's ProType Titler aren't that bad – but both look like forgotten treasure which needed lots of revise.
I find NewBlue's Titler Pro is a great tool, but for quite a different demand.

In Vegas 11 and later Sony added a new titler called Titles and Text. It is a simple titler like legacy good for simple quick text. It does have some canned animations similar to the Sony Protype titler. It is an OFX plug-in which adds flexibility to keyframing and integrates with the preview window nicely.

Vegas 11 and 12 came bundled with NewBlue Titler Pro 1.0, but no longer in Vegas 13. This titler is a very feature rich 3D titler. In the Vegas 13 upgrade offer you can get the new just released Titler Pro 3 for $99.

I have never used the old Sony Protype titler. I have played with it briefly.

I use Sony Titles and Text for quick simple plain text and NewBlue Titler Pro for all other stuff.
