Subject:A Way to Check Pitch on an Audio File

Hello

I've got a few measures of several guitar and bass audio files and one of them is slightly off pitch.

The pitch is so slightly off that when I solo each track I can't tell which track it is.

Is there a plug in that I can use that will help me determine which track is off pitch?

I can't recall if my tuner will work with recorded audio. :-( I'm done in the studio for the night.

I have Wavelab 8 too.

Thanks

SF Pro's Spectrum Analysis should tell you the frequency/note. Finding a sustained monophonic note yields the best accuracy.. a bass guitar for instance.

All SoundForgePro offers in Spectrum Analysis is Frequency; doesn't tell you much about the actual tuning e.g. how many cents the note(s) deviate from a specified reference pitch, or anything about the deviation within the note's envelope.

The best 'tool for such analysis (and repair) if you regularly need it is Celemony's Melodyne Editor http://www.celemony.com/en/start - this is a Standalone product which also features a VST plugin for use within a suitable DAW host; it can analyze and repair pitch problems with gobsmackingly remarkable results, even with polyphonic source material.

Unfortunately VegasPro, SoundForge and Wavelab are not compatible VST plugin hosts, but the Standalone application may suit your needs.

There is a 30day Demo available at their website. Prepare to be amazed!

You could try a graphic guitar tuner plugin ...

I actually had Melodyne suggested on the Cakewalk forum too.

Maybe I'll try to demo version.

Thanks all.

Plenty of free tuners if you just want to check the frequency/note and correct manually.
