Best Video card with NewBlue Titler 3???

NaperRick wrote on 5/6/2014, 1:44 AM
I just received my Upgrade to VP13 and NewBlueFX Titler Pro 3 and getting having GPU issues.
My pc currently only had Intel integrated graphics, which I now understand won't work with the Titler.
So, I need to buy a new graphics card and am looking for recommendations for an inexpensive graphic card that will work (PC with Win 7) properly with VP13 and NewBlueFX Titler 3.
By inexpensive, I am hoping to be under $100 USD.
Thanks,
Rick

For the card, look for a good priced 500 series NVidia card on Ebay. I just got a new/refurbished 580 for a little more than $200.00. I know that is over your budget but if I can get the best card (580 new/refurbished) for that price then you should easily find a good card that is within your budget.

As for the driver, the 296.10 driver is the fastest but NBTP3 complained about it when I used it and the dialog box recommended a newer version driver. This was after NBTP3 had stopped working. I used the latest driver and that problem cleared-up.

I gave up and regret having bought NBTP3 because it is too flaky so I am back to the 296.10 driver. NBTP3 just sits there...

Any current AMD/ATI or nVidia video card with a current video driver will work fine.

Most video card issues I've seen are:

1. Intel HD cards
2. Good cards with old video drivers
3. "Mobile" video cards switching to "low powered" mode

Thanks JetDV,
I am looking at the Gigabyte GeForce GT640 with 2GB of DDR3.

Should I assume this should work OK for both VP13 and NB Titler Pro 3?

Thanks,
Rick

Sorry, you can not ASSUME anything in this scenario. There is absolutely no way to tell for certain what your outcome of stability, and the compatibility with each and every software app interface that you have currently installed (or plan to) and finally what you wish to push the videocard driver to do.

The simple answer is that NBFX Titler 3 should run on the card ok.
Not great, and not perfect, and not with encounters perhaps with some sideline issues.

Yep, I understand.
I guess I was trying to identify any known issues with that card, running both VP13 and NBT3.
And also if there is a better choice (all things being equal) for an under $100 USD graphics card?
For example, might I be better off with a Radeon R7 250 equipt graphic card for this task?

As far as Titler Pro 3 is concerned, either card should be fine given a current video driver.

Great thanks, I just ordered the NVidia GT640.

WHen you say any current nVidia..I just found one at Micro Center

Nvidia VCQ290NVS-PCIEX16-PB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 256MB PCI Express x16 Low Profile Workstation Video Card - Refurbished

Since it says refurbn I can't tell if it's current or not. I know it doesn't have much memory. but the price is right for now.

I'd avoid that card.

1) one processor

2) 256 MB

3) non-standard (for most of us) connecter

Thanks, it was $30...go figure.

I think you have a better chance to get a good card off eBay as mentioned already. GTX570, 580 or 560Ti; also AMD/ATI like a HD6970 or slightly lower. These should all go for around $150.00. In fact, I do have MSI R6970 Lightning that I would sell; send me a PM if anyone is interested.

fosko, that is not a "current" card. It's a really old card with very little memory. Titler Pro requires a minimum of 512MB but more is better. You would certainly want a newer model. Any 500 series or newer is fine.

Thank you Jetdv. That's what NB support told me. I'm looking at the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 2048MB DDR3 PCIe 2.0 x16 Video Card now. I realize you get what you pay for, but money is a prime factor right now.

I would NOT buy that card. 96CUDA cores are no enough to make any difference at all. You need at least 300-400CUDA cores... trust me, I have been there.

WOW...and my current only has 16. Interestingly enough I just receved an email from NVidia saying:"The GeForce series of graphics cards are designed specifically for gaming purpose and it does support high definition Video files and the Quadro series of graphics cards are designed for software applications like AutoCAD, Maya, 3D Max and other animation software.

The best upgrade option for using sony vegas would be the Quadro K 600."

And most certainly DON'T BUY THIS CARD EITHER! For the same money you got so much more on eBay.

This forum is full of advice on what works and what doesn't.
