I bought the upgrade when the plugins were released by FXHome two weeks ago and paid $359. That'll teach me to be an early adopter of this company's products. Never again!

They're great FX though so, despite being royally p'd off with FXHome, take advantage of this offer. But you might want to wait two weeks just in case the price is slashed again ;)

Hi Spectralis,

That's a bummer, similar happened to me one time, are these just the same plugins from HitFilm 2

Nearly all of the Hitfilm effects are included except for certain 3D plugins that need a 3D compositor like Hitfilm 2 Ultimate.

If you don't own or use HF2 Ultimate then the plugins are well worth getting at 50% off. They compare to BorisFX BCC9 in many respects which costs a lot more. Apart from BCC9 there isn't really any other comparable plugin suite available for VP. Just the keying FX are worth the price imo.

Thanks Spectralis for your comment!

I saw their demo video was about to pose a question if Hit Film was comparable to BCC or RED. I have RED and many of the Hit Film effects can be done in RED. Imho, for the price this is a good deal because RED is 3x more.

I'd still be interested to hear what advantages Hit Film has over BCC or Red, if any.

Thanks!
Byron

Anyone know of any problems installing the plugins on a system that already has HitFilm Ultimate installed?

I didn't have any problems installing the FX with HF2 Ultimate installed on my Win 7 x64 system. Try FX Home forums for more advice.

Compared to BCC8, Hitfilm FX has better keying and particle FX. BCC has transitions. Not yet sure when BCC9 will be released so can't compare. The best thing about the FX is that they're completely integrated into VP 12 & 13 unlike RED which you have to open to edit. I don't think HF FX can compare to the range of FX in RED though. Having said that HF 3D FX are claimed to be better.

The only way to know is to try the HF demo and compare it with RED. I prefer the ease of working with HF FX.

A while ago, along with another editor who owns Hitfilm Ultmate 2, we managed to compare the chromakey filters in my BCC8 (Vegas) and FCPX along with his Hitfilm Ultimate 2 chromakeyer.

The keying inside Hitfilm was nearly perfect, with great hair separation, no jagged edges, while the keyers inside BCC8 and FCPX where at par, hair separation was not perfect and we did get some jagged edges. I was really amazed by the quality of the Hitfilm keyer.

Just one thing I wish was improved is the Hitfilm-Vegas integration where some DSLR footage will not display levels and saturation correctly on the Vegas timeline and it seems you are better off converting your files to a proper codec.

I believe the upgrade pricing on the Vegas Suite is one of Sony's best offer, a truly great package.

While V12 was so stable for me, most likely my most stable version of Vegas, I still need to test drive V13 and see how it behaves.
