Neat video, but as someone who edits, some things I want to comment on:
*why does a video about what editors do have no editing and all motion graphics? That would be like a video about "What does a police officer do?" and it doesn't show any police or police related objects, just fish.
*Editors don't do all that on their own, if they are an editor & not director, script writer, etc. they follow the design of someone else. They're the person who builds the buildings, not designs them. Who physically built the Darwin Martin house? Who knows, Frank Lloyd Wright designed it though.
*the video suggests that unless the editor is deeply involved in a project the project isn't any good and that editors do this every day. If that were the case then there would be almost no used car commercials on tv. :)
*Editing as an art form? Sure. How many painters do it as an art form vs do it to cover walls for clients and make a good living? Most editing wouldn't be classified as art. If it is then anything is art, even the 6 year old's iMovie productions.
*I must not be experienced enough because I am willing to take some images, put a fade between them, use a script to do pan & crops and have the client be happy. Maybe I need to be less noticed and to nothing but straight cuts with no fades. After all, then everyone will say "This doesn't even look like it's been edited!" ;)
But the less you notice our work the more successful we have been' = sounds like les is more.
Politicians invented the line “Les is more” les from their side is somehow more for you but from your side more is taken for less from their side, more or les, les is more = the perfect double sided mirror.
Good editing is like a double sided mirror which should only be transparent from the editors side. the viewer sees his own emotions and thoughts but the editor is leading him through those emotions.
Is it just me in grumpy mode, or does this video have problems:
1) its an advert for their course which apparently cost a silly amount of cash £3000 or about $5000. for what?
2) the music is pretty boring. Too many videos these days with tinkle tinkle, thin noises, plinky plonky 'lets be happy' and zero melody. I forgot it already..
3) Tiny fonts with 'designery' - look i have have a graphics degree and im going to use it regardless of need.
4) Cant help but feel its slightly patronising generally.
On the plus side, its less than 2 minutes and the message 'if you dont notice us, we have been successful'... or something like that, seems ok.
-1 from me. Sorry. I shall now shut up and walk away :)
Paul.
Maybe I'm jut grumpy today, too, but I an SO over the motion/infographics style! It's the current shakycam or speedramp. $20 bucks worth of Shutterstock icons and I could teach any intern to do this. Editing???
Have to qualify my grumpiness by saying I am currently working on one of these mindless projects. Does that explain it?
EDIT: I am grumpy. This post is more of a comment on my own job. The design elements and script I've been given are way worse than this one.
