Vegas Pro 13 at NAB

rs170a wrote on 3/20/2014, 9:42 AM
I just got a trade magazine called TV Technology and under the listing of editing software to be shown at NAB next month was Vegas Pro 13.
All that the news brief said was:
Sony Creative Software is offering its Vegas Pro 13 which features new workflows for faster editing, easier archiving and friendlier cloud collaboration.
Let the rumours as to what that means begin :)

Then the Beta Testing of VegasPro 13 could be in the run now :)

Quite possibly one of 'main interest' will be an easy and efficient editing of 4K resolution. No reason in competition to not going 4K.

"Cloud Collaboration" seems interesting.

Hope it is more stable - that's one of very-highly expected feature.

can I get a free upgrade since 12 ran like poo, yet 11 runs just fine? REALLY lost a lot of faith in what I THOUGHT was a fine product. that Adombe crap is calling my name...

Hmm. Let me think of the top features I would NOT want Sony wasting time on with the next release of Vegas.

Number one would be better cloud integration or anything with the word cloud in it.

Number two would be anything having to do with "workflow improvements." Vegas already has the best workflow, no need to tamper with it.

How about simply better GPU integration/performance and better stability?
larry-peter wrote on 3/20/2014, 10:49 AM
Being an eternal optimist, perhaps "easier archiving" includes some real media management?

As far as cloud collaboration, I generally don't want collaboration outside of my facility. Nightmare scenario - client tells me, "Looks good, but I added some wipes and spinning transitions to jazz it up a bit."

Now, reliable project transfer between platforms, that would be nice.

My .02 cents

Fix the preview window so it displays video levels properly without using a filter.

Ahhh, the first day of Spring and the Vegas-bashing trolls are out...

I can't see how people who are voicing their wish for long-standing issues to be fixed can be considered trolls.

Maybe you would rather everyone here to agree with everything SCS does?

I am not a Vegas bashing troll. I have used vegas since version 8 and use 12 every day to make money with.

I have had my share of trouble but for the most part it is quite stable there are known bugs that need fixed and not by putting out a new version with more bells and whistles to cover up the bugs.

I am not the only one who does not like the direction Movies Studio took with all the touch and lack of customization. We all know that Studio sometimes it a precursor to what comes out in the PRO version, and I hope that the touch stuff will not be ported over, if it is I hope that it is better implemented.

John I am not sure the wording of Vegas bashing trolls was appropriate, but I do understand some users of this forum seem to only find and talk about the fault and trouble of Vegas.

I for one love Vegas and prefer it over other editing software, but I also get frustrated when things that should have been fixed long ago are not.

Perhaps this post makes no sense, perhaps no one will read it, perhaps version 13 will be the best ever, or the worst ever. At any rate we will not know till it comes out I for one look forward to every new version good or bad.( I am a glutton for punishment) :-))

>Ahhh, the first day of Spring and the Vegas-bashing trolls are out...

I'm not sure if I'm a troll or not, but Vegas 12 crashed 8 times on me this morning. Twice before a complete uninstall and reinstall and the rest after that. The last thing I want to see right now is a bunch of new features and no relief from the stability issues that I have been living with since V11.
flyingski wrote on 3/20/2014, 4:53 PM
I started with Vegas 4 and must say 12 has been the most stable of all. Obviously it's because I built a superior computer... and I'm holding my mouth correctly. I also bow three time while facing Madison before I click on the Vegas icon.

I think the one thing all users of this forum have in common is that we would like to continue working with Vegas. And eventually we won't be able to if development stops. And development is going to stop if Vegas doesn't increase it's user base. And it's not going to increase it's user base if it doesn't do something about it's well deserved reputation for instability in the recent versions. If trial users continue to encounter crashes well before they see they advantages of the Vegas workflow, like if they encounter a crash when they try to open the render dialog, they're going elsewhere immediately, you' won't find them on this forum. Users who make excuses for the product, blame drivers, Windows, for crashes that should be caught in programming, or demand only top level hardware to run Vegas, or label people who have encountered problems trolls, aren't helping at all.

Just in from SCS
"Collaborating on multimedia projects has never been this easy... or cool. Sony Ci lets you invite your friends, your team, and your clients to one shared production workspace in the cloud. Users can upload media, leave frame specific comments and annotations, chat in real time and more. It's a revolutionary new way to share ideas, get feedback, and avoid the typical frustrations associated with old-school workflows."

Cloud corroboration is not new! The service has been offered by SCS for over 8 months now and it is not a new paradigm by any stretch of the imagination. Several users of this forum have already tried it and AFAIK and hear, there is nothing there that cannot just be easily as well forgotten about.

oh and John ...been trolling since 2001...still make my living with Vegas as part of my tool kit ....but gets a little harder and a little less used with each release

MSP lost all support purely because it became increasingly unstable. MSP 6 was great, MSP7 was basically unusable for a lot of people, although no doubt it ran rock solid for others, MSP8 was worse - Ulead died. None of us want to see Vegas going the same way. Nor can it survive if it relies on existing user upgrades.

VidMus, your heart may be in the right place, but the outgoing message is just not ok. if I want to throw money at an NLE to keep it in business then my bet would be to pay the huge on-going cost for the Adobe Premiere Cloud. BUT NO>

What I and most people want whether I buy a Jonathan Fresh Apple or a new version of VegasPro is perceived value. There has not been any perceived value change for buying VegasPro version changes since the release of Version 10 and ever since.

I guess because I want better GPU performance and stability I'm a troll?

I've been using Vegas since version 3. Paid for updates to 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 12. I'm running a benchmark site to help users select video cards and set up a stable system, and I love Vegas. Do I need to say that it's a fantastic application or doesn't my long time participation here say that for me?

I think I've earned the right to respond to a thread with my honest opinion without being called a troll.

>As for others here. Vegas 12 is 100% rock solid on my system as well as others. It seams like almost every time I see a post bashing Vegas instead of one simply asking for help, I can almost give a guarantee that the person's system specs are NOT THERE!!![

I have an i7 quad core with a decent nVidia graphics card (just one driver) and 16GB of RAM. My system specs are definitely "there", and when Vegas isn't crashing instead of calling up the render dialog or hanging when I first start it each day it does in fact run exceptionally well.

To put things in perspective: GM recently has had an ignition switch issue with some of it's cars where when a heavy key ring is used, the ignition will lose power, taking with it the power steering, power brakes, and in the case of a crash, it's airbag deployment. This has directly lead to 31 crashes and 12 deaths. The decision was made early on that since the majority of GM users had no problems, that it wasn't really an issue worthy of a recall.

What percentage of users need to directly experience problems in order for there to actually be a problem? 10%? 20%? 30%? Judging from the numbers of complaints I see on this and other forums, it is well into the range where any product should consider that it has a problem.

In the early days of Vegas, this program was absolutely solid. People who's PCs regularly crashed with other programs used to remark how when running Vegas they never crashed. I used to have a laptop that would slow to a crawl when it got hot. It would slow down to a ridiculously slow pace, but it would never crash.

The crashing isn't related to the system performance. My crashes are all on the program launch or just calling up the render dialog. Easy stuff. It is rock solid during the previews and renders that actually start where you would expect performance related problems. Versions 10 and earlier don't crash. I would just use V10 if it would recognize the new camera formats.

"remark how when running Vegas they never crashed"

I remember reading a review of Vegas 4, in which the author said something like, "I started the render and the remaining time counter started climbing. Eventually it told me that the render would take 46 hours. I was insulted! Not by the length of time, but by the Sonic Foundry programmers gall at assuming my Windows PC would run any program for that long without crashing. Yet, it worked and finished." (paraphrased from memory)
