interesting, but:

Vegas Pro Connect / Proxy-first workflow - dictate the need for FAST / RELIABLE internet connections. in my case they simply don't exist where i live, and if i lived where they did, australian telcos would be certain to make me pay through the nose for such services and data usage.

Project Archiving - interesting....

XAVC Intra Smart Render - can someone explain what this is? is it an alternative to mxf, dnxhd, cineform, etc.,

Multi-tool paradigm - wow, gobbledegook - for a 'most used' tool menu?

i would have been really happy to have read that they'd sorted out gpu and stability rather that anything in that release.

ho hum....

"i would have been really happy to have read that they'd sorted out gpu and stability rather that anything in that release."

The paucity of new features, and Chris Dolan's post on the other thread (3/31/2014 10:42:24 PM), encourage me that they might have put a lot of effort into that. We can but hope! I doubt they'd ever advertise those sort of improvements in a way that casts doubt on the reliability of previous versions.

IF "Multi-tool paradigm – A convenient pop-up menu directly below the timeline organizes frequently used tools and provides fast access for a more efficient editing workflow" means the same as the new Editing toolbar below the timeline in MSP 13, this was not well received there (coupled with the now non-existent Customize toolbar option).
Interesting to see if "a gesture driven control surface feature" also means "touch-enabled/touch-friendly buttons". "Many toolbars and menu items are now larger to accommodate touch gestures" (MSP 13 release notes).

"australian telcos would be certain to make me pay through the nose for such services and data usage."

Not really, I think you can get 500GB / month for under $100 on cable Only real issue I have is the upload speed is pretty slow :(

" XAVC Intra Smart Render - can someone explain what this is?"

XAVC is Sony new RAW codec that first appeared on the F5 / F55 cameras.

" is it an alternative to mxf, dnxhd, cineform, etc"

Yes but Sony are now offering a hardware upgrade to the F5 / F55 so they can record DNxHD and ProRes.

Leslie (ushere), you've worked with enough marketing people over the years to know that you sell the sizzle, not the steak :(
I see the Proxy-first workflow as being useful for TV stations who can't wait to get back to the station to be able to upload the footage. As you said though, bandwidth will be an issue in remote locations.
I am curious about Vegas Pro Connect as I can't envision using the iPad to solve the collaboration challenge on video productions.
I'm going to take Chris Dolan at his word and hope that this version has most of the bugs worked out. Only time and user feedback will tell.

I'd probably be interested if they just got their video levels to fall in line with every other NLE out there. Too much to ask? I would even donate time helping if asked. Open offer.

Mike, I think iPad is used for touchscreen feature that we may have seen in MSP13..., in order not to disturb the small icons of VegasPro interface.
Possibly this is just another surface control..., and designed for WLAN environment...

Previously I thought it is a camera remote function :) A bit too far.. :D

But who knows... we will know about it very soon... Love to hear their first-looks opinion from anyone visits NAB.

Was there a upgrade price in there?

Many gadgets (who cares about iPad and Sony Cloud?) and still no update for DVD Architect of course (still fulll of bugs).

Multi-tool paradigm

Does not bode well with me. MSP 13 GUI and tools are horrible at best, my short time using it cost me editing time, the Unintuitive nature of the TOUCH enabled interface is a joke for desktop users.

This makes me SAD..

XAVC Intra Smart Render - can someone explain what this is? is it an alternative to mxf, dnxhd, cineform, etc.,

Vegas 12 already supports XAVC. XAVC is high bitrate AVC video with I-frames only (Intra). XAVC is in an MXF file. XAVC is AVC with a constrained set of parameters. XAVC supports 4:2:0, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 chroma formats, but Vegas 12 implements only the 10-bit 4:2:2 variety. Maybe 13 will support 4:4:4.

When you say "mxf" I assume you meant the HD mpeg-2 formats.

XAVC is an alternative to DNxHD and Cineform as both of those are I-frame (Intra) compression formats. XAVC is what Sony has been promoting for 4K, but it does fully support HD.

13 adds support for smart render of the XAVC format.

"Loudness Meters – New EBU R-128/CALM (Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act) compliant metering helps you follow the new rules and avoid fines while maximizing the dynamic range potential of your audio."

If they work on the 5.1 master bus, we've got a winner.
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/7/2014, 11:49 AM
Depending on how the loudness metering is being done, and if there's a simple tool to make it compliant.

This will save me valuable time on every show we master out through Vegas. Captioning and audio mastering are always done in there, and I've been having to round trip files to adobe and back to get the files audio compliance correct.

Really looking forward to that if it works well, so I can get this all done.

I am hoping they do something about better GPU support.

Seems they did not get the worst from MS 13 GUI, Paul :)
DavidK wrote on 4/7/2014, 12:58 PM
Yes, I saw that. Since Movie Studio 13's GPU support was not upgraded, I am wondering if Vegas Pro 13's GPU will be upgraded to use the GTX600 and 700 series of processors.

I am hoping someone who is there will post something.

Why does not the sony migrate to mac too?
Psychotropic Films wrote on 4/7/2014, 1:26 PM
For my editing needs (work independently), I don't see anything here of interest. Like many other VP users I'm struggling with stability issues with VP12 my new Windows 8.1 computer. The stability issues and lack of response from Sony has been eroding my confidence in the software. I'll keep an open mind as more product information is released.
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/7/2014, 1:37 PM
psycho, sony's responsiveness on these forums is greater than ever, perhaps you should try making posts here instead of whatever method you have been using?

The loudness meter is cool. I have a third party one but it adds quite a bit of processor load.

Does anyone know if XAVC will feed handbrake? Will it play in WMP or VLC? The new smartrendering of this format could be useful.
OldSmoke wrote on 4/7/2014, 2:12 PM
XAVC plays fine in WMP, I don't have VLC. I think HB can handle it too, I will check when I am back at my system. I use XAVC for archiving and intermediate and I am very happy with it. Rendering choices are a bit limited, it is more for HD and higher.
