MPEG input files crashing V10

I am creating a veg file with about 30-35 MPEG files (approx. 30 total minutes)moving using Explorer to the time line. For the first time ever V10 keep hanging up on me while doing this.

In the past I usually use .AVI files and have never had any problems. Is there something about MPEG files that causes V10 to go berserk for no appear reason that I can discover?

It is usually OK until I get around 25 files loaded then strange things start to happen like I can no longer click on an MPEG and preview it (nothing happens) and therefore I can't drag it onto the timeline. When that happens the program will eventually crash and send a note onto Sony.

I'm stuck.

MPEG is a container - are all the files you're using from the same source?

The next time Vegas "hangs", start 'Resource Monitor' (from the Windows Start bar). In Resource Monitor, go to the Overview tab, find vegas100.exe in the image column, right-click on vegas100.exe and then click on "Analyze Wait Chain". Hopefully you will see what Vegas is waiting for. If there is something there, try ending the processes in the wait chain and see if Vegas continues.

I use HDV Mpeg's all the time but have you tried putting them on one at a time to see if it's a specific file causing the hang?

Mpeg would be a codec and it comes in many flavors. Post the MediaInfo of your chosen Mpeg2 source and where did you get these files from.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't aware of the resource monitor and will try it out. I did clean my computer with Glary utilities and that seemed to help with the crashing but it is still getting stuck on something with this series of MPEG files. I've tried loading them one at a time and they work sometimes but then when I restart V10, the file won't "load". I thought it might be my HD but and moved the files but no luck. I am working under Windows 7 Ultimate.

I got these files from a Panasonic consumer HD camera (about 4 years old). What exactly is the media info you want on the MPEG files?

I'll keep working on this and if anyone else has a suggestion, I would appreciate it.

MPEG 4 specifies several things including the MP4 container, MPEG 4 Part 2 encoding (Divx, Xvid, etc.), and MPEG 4 Part 10 encoding (h.264, AVC, etc.). People use the term MP4 and MPEG 4 loosely.

I'm still stuck on the V10 hang up. I have been monitoring the problem with the resource meter and when I get the message that V10 is not responding, I analyze the wait chain and get the message "vegas 100.exe (PID: 4212) Thread:6528" and when I end the thread the program terminates. Just don't know what this all means.

I think I found my problem. In the past I have never used .mpg files as input, only .avi & & .M2TS files. Once I went back to using the .M2TS files as input in my current project, all the problems vanished.

I don't know what it is about .MPG files, but I sure won't try that again.

FWIW,
