Subject:Wavefile Looks FLAT on the Bottom

Hello and thank you in advance.

While placing a sound file (wave) in sound forge studio 10.0 i noticed the bottom of the wave is almost completely flat. Not like the top where I see the normal peaks n drops. I took a screen shot but can't post a pic anywhere.

Does anyone know whey my file would appear flat on the bottom? This is on both left and right channels.

Thanks Ray

Probably the original analog signal had a very heavy negative bias, pushing the whole waveform down. In effect, the negative swings were several dB louder than the positive. And then, apparently, these louder negative peaks got clipped.

How does it sound? Is there a lot of distortion?

I'm not understanding. Maybe it's somewhere in ABLETON Then where I recorded the original song. But I only started seeing this in the past week. Not even sure where to start ):

It sounds ok so far not distorted. But these are mixes I send to radio station for broadcast and I want them to be perfect. And this waveform doesn't look perfect when neither the right or left waves are FLAT at the bottom.

Can you post a screenshot? Is there any headroom? Could be heavily limited, and/or clipped prior to the A/D converter and a -180 degree phase. If you flip the phase, that would change the waveform to a flat top, however phase may not be the problem.. if one exists. You can check it with the SF; "Options> Channel Meters> Show Phase Scope"
Maybe post an audio clip as well.

Any file sharing or photo sharing website. Dropbox, Photobucket, Shutterfly, Flickr, Google Drive, Skydrive, to name a few. Most allow at least 5GB storage... free.
