Subject:Problem with entering UPC Codes in CD Information

Hi -- OK, I've got an EP finally perfectly mixed and mastered, and I have the final version laid out in Sound Forge 10 to create the final CD-R master for replication. I've got all of my CD Text and ISRCs, etc. entered, and there's one MAJOR problem - I am entering the valid UPC code I got from CDBaby into the CD Information metadata pane and it's entering the data incorrectly. As most of you know, a UPC code is supposed to have the form 8-8xxxx-yyyyy-z. But Sound Forge is insisting on entering a zero in front of it, and adding extra dashes, so the format it wants is something like 0-8-8xxx-xyyyy-y-z. This obviously an error. Does anyone know a way to get around this? Also does anyone know if this has been fixed in Sound Forge 11? The promotional price ends today, and I would buy it if anyone can assure me this bug is fixed, but I don't have a need for the new version right now otherwise. Thanks!!!! |

I do not deal much with CDs lately, but when I did, I used 'CD Architect' which was/is included since SF Pro 9 I think. FWIW, SF-11 exhibits the same behavior adding digits in my tests. |

Thanks. CD Architect is an obsolete product - to my knowledge all of the functionality of CD Architect is now in Sound Forge. Thanks for the info about SF-11; that was REALLY helpful. I don't need to upgrade right now and am short on funds, so it will have to wait. I did do some research and found out that the UPC code is being replaced by a "media catalog number" which does indeed add a zero to the beginning of a UPC code. But I am still very confused about the placement of the hyphens and I cannot seem to find any examples of how a media catalog number does this. I am hoping I don't have to re-layout the CD using Wavelab, but if the UPC number is wrong in SF, I might have to go that route. Does anyone else know anything about a Media Control Number vs. UPC? Thanks! |

No, CD Architect still works just fine, and is my preference for laying out CDs and does offer some advantages over SF. You owe it to yourself to at least give it a try ! ;-) Just doesn't do VST natively ;-( geoff |
