nVidia Driver: NvBackend - NVIDIA Corporation

O...K....

After needing to reinstall much, nVidia driver install brought with this puppy:NvBackend - NVIDIA Corporation - "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\Update Core\NvBackend.exeThis lil monster delightfully prances around my system deciding on what GAMES I want to play!? I set this option to OFF in STARTUP and now, not only has my PC quietened down, the MENU residuals have been exorcised back to whence they came.

So, if you go to Startup and see this: NvBackend.exe : as part of your STARTUP try setting it to OFF.

Toodles

i'm presuming it was unasked for? no little check box you might of overlooked?

i HATE it when supposedly 'trusted' software manufacturers start throwing in what THEY think i need in ADDITION to what i actually need.

I didn't have or was offered an option when I installed the driver. Leslie please do check that you have/haven't that line in your startup?

Cheers

Thanks, Grazie

I too installed this thinking it was an enhancement or improvement to my current video card. After I read your message I found it in startup and quickly turned it off. I will probably uninstall it later. I'm just surprised that it was in a normal update (but why am I surprised since Google is in there too with Bing?).

I should have known better because it was NOT a recommended update.

Yeah, I did the search to find out just what it is/was. It's still grabbing my system so I'll need to do something more fundamental.

grazie, i don't have it, but then again i do as erni does (with all my software installs nowadays) and use custom, just to double check what they're trying to sneak past me....

i think it started off with nero rom - when it started installing oodles of unnecessary cr*p....

I actually wrote Ahead Software (or whatever the company name was) about selling a plain version of Nero Burning ROM without all the extra junk. That was back with version 8, I think. They said it wasn't what their customers wanted.

Version 8 turned out to be the last version I ever owned.

Good luck with this guys. I don't have this particular piece of software, but I do have other unwanted things starting up when I switch on ..... and I cannot locate "Start Up" to do anything about it!

It's not in Windows folder, and a search of the whole computer shows nothing. (W7)

Where in tarnation is the thing??

Thanks

EDIT - just removed the space from "Start up" and now have a confusing array - dozens of results when searching - hopefully one of these is "the" place I need ...

Help!

In my attempts to solve this, my search results led me to look for a couple of folders in C\Users called "App Data" and "Recent", but neither were there when I looked.

Thinking I may have some folders hidden I clicked on a "Hidden" box in attributes, and seem to have made that folder disappear, but I cannot reverse the process because the folder in question is no longer visible.

I know I lack some basic knowledge of Windows, but these are areas I rarely visit, and now I'm lost!

Assistance appreciated. (Sorry for deflecting the thread Grazie!)

Just run 'msconfig' from the main menu "Run" box...

Thanks so much Piotr.

What a revelation! So many things in "Startup" I didn't know about.

I removed several, including iTunes, which I didn't even know I had, and never use!

There are still some "unknown" programs there, which I've hesitated to remove in case they have a useful purpose. Is there a way of pruning down to a minimum without compromising the system?

peter, i always google things i find in start up, and other areas that i'm not sure of. i've found that reading about 3 views on a particular item is usually enough to get a handle on it and to know whether it's needed or not.

good luck
