... to have a freeware decoder software for the perfect clearity audio format? Then everybody would be able to share PCA-files with friends who do not own sonic foundry's software. I know that Siren Xpress can playback PCA-files, but you cannot use it to convert them back to wav. OK, one could use a tool like total recorder, but that would not be very comfortable.
AND: would about a decoder plug-in for Windows Media Player or Winamp?

Any opinions on this?

Yeah I agree. I love this PCA format. I use to save everything in this format. What is really good is that it keeps all the metadata (regions, etc.)
There is another concurrent audio format (free) which is Monkey's audio (www.monkeysaudio.com). I use it when I have to share files with other people.

But it doesn't save loop data (generated e.g. by SoundForge), does it? Last time I tested this it didn't.

No, it doesn't save loop data. SF knows about the problem. From what I was told, a fix is not too high on any of the programmers' priority lists.
