.veg file stops responding while loading, in Vegas

I have a video, in Vegas Pro 12, that I have been working on. It is about 35 minutes long. I finished for the day, two days ago, and saved the file. The last two days when ever I go to load it, it loads to between 95% to 98%, and then Vegas Pro 12 goes to the dreaded message, "Not Responding". the software locks up and I have to use the X to shut it down. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Veg files from other videos load OK.

Lou,

Please try starting Vegas with blank preferences and see if that helps. To do that, hold down Ctrl + Shift while launching Vegas and it will go to a clean slate. You will have to rebuild your prefs, but that's better than crashing.

Thanks,

I tried loading the defaults and it still went to not responding.

The actual program loads OK. It is just when I load the .veg file that it stops responding.

Are you saying it's one particular .veg file that is having problems? When loading another .veg file or maybe starting a new one, it is OK? If that is the case then maybe there's some sort of corrupt file in the particular .veg file that you are using. I'm not sure if that will help or not, but maybe at least lead to why you're having problems.

Thanks,

Adam

Yes, it seems to be only when I load that .veg file. Others load OK.

I was figuring it may be a problem in the actual .veg file, but wasn't sure. I hate to have to start the entire project over again. I already have about 35 hours into it. I don't know of any solution to the problem other than start all over again. Hate to think of that.

Do you have the backups of that .veg file? Vegas automatically creates backup files of the .veg project. If you go to where you are saving the project there may be some files with the .bak extension. Maybe one of those will work for you. To use it, edit the file name and remove the .bak extension and then it will be a normal .veg file. You may want to copy it from the folder it is in, and paste it to another, before doing the editing to the file name.

That did work. I was able to go back to a temp file from the 2nd of Feb, and it loaded. It took about 4 or 5 minutes but it did load. Thanks for the help.

After looking over the temp files, the problem started after I installed Pro Titler 2.0 and one of the new Lower 3rds software. I used both of them, in the video. The temp files after that don't load. The ones prior to the install do.

This Windows error message doesn't always mean that Vegas has actually stopped. I often have that when Vegas opens a project with some complexity. Before breaking off the startup process, you may check using the Task Manager if there is any CPU activity. If there is, just wait.

lou_do,
I had a similar problem with Titler Pro about a year back. I can't quite remember the exact details but the following workaround sometimes helped me (not consistently, so no promises that it will help you...)

Make sure that Titler Pro is loaded before opening your .veg. That is, with no project open go to Media Generators and click Titler Pro. You might have to add it to the timeline (I can't recall) or maybe just previewing it is enough. Once it's loaded without hanging, you should be able to open the .veg.
