290.16 Driver by NVidia - is chosen because it is most stable with NewBlueFX packages. Later version drivers are less stable with NewBlueFX and in most cases have little effect on VegasPro operation.
However older version drivers are more stable on VegasPro.
290.16 is the compromise to keep NewBlue products stable.

I'm using a GTX560Ti .. driver 331.65 .. Win 8.1 64bit ... I did get those same screen flashes and windows messages about once a week to 10 day intervals .. but lately can't remember the last one. I kept thinking of changing the driver but never got around to it. Running V12 with great success .. For me about as stable as 8.0c ever was. I'm mostly working with 1920 x 1080 AVCHD straight from XR500V camera .. no transcoding. .. I know there's a new driver, 332.21 but find no need to load it. I don't use NewBlue very much.

Just did the nVidia "Smart Scan" for that card and it came away with this as an option:-

i'm using them with no problems.

since getting the 650 card i'm really not too interested in being finicky about drivers since i don't use gpu rendering anymore*

*a. it was pretty unreliable with my old 550, b. new 4770 get's through renders pretty damn quickly anyway. c. new 650 uses 45watts, old 550 was 125watts.

that said, my max prog length is around 20>30 mins so it's no big deal - if i was doing long form event it might be anther matter entirely

nVidia Titan - always using latest, including BETA drivers. Rarely any problems, I never have "GPU" switched on inside Vegas, I use Pro 11 mostly, because Pro12 has crazy random pointless crashes - it's crashed on any and every driver I'd used since release and never in the same place twice, where as 11 rarely has a hiccup.... so, to me, 12 is just buggy.

296.10 with 560ti and Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. Windows 8 is collecting dust while waiting for a driver that matches the performance I get now which will probably be never!

I might go shopping on Ebay for a backup card just in case.

For those studying this thread - note how many mentions and the reason why for 296.10 driver.

What now needs to be asked:
Which driver version works best with:
A) The operating system and version of the PC
B) Whether GPU is used with a particular driver
C) compatibility in jumping from different apps - say HitFilm Ultimatte, NewBlueFX, Firefox Browser etc.

and always of course what hardware base:
A) The Video Card version
B) Motherboard
C) whether more than one video card is installed

I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers on Widows 8.1 with my 570 card and I am getting almost identical benchmarks as I get when I boot that same system to Windows 7x64 and the 296.10 driver.

FIRST, it is sad that Sony Creative Software won't partner with NVidia to have a driver specifically made for them. AVID, Adobe and other have specific drivers for specific editors. For SVP 12 I use 259.12 on Quadro FX4600. It is made to be compatible with Adobe products, specifically AFX and Photoshop which I use with VP 12. It plays smooth transitioning from video to photos and back again with no choppiness. If I upgrade to 259.77 (for AVID MC5.5) or 276.14 (Adobe PP CS5) it is choppy. It makes sense - photos are a higher resolution than video. Hence a driver made to handle photos vs video. Video (2.2 MP)is low def by comparison to a 16 MP photo. If I were you, I try them all. Start low and go up slowly.

Grazie, this driver comes up as a suggestion no matter what you ask. Most drivers are made for video games. So is 332.21.

SCS benchmark project to MC AVC I get 29sec in Win 7 versus 33sec in Win 8.1. The difference isn't much but in percentage it is 13% and that isn't close to "almost identical"... at least not for me.

My numbers are virtually identical, both OS's preview the same SCS benchmarks at a solid 29.97, so it's hard to say if one could outperform the other, and the render tests are within a second or two of each other with one time the W7 system is 1 second faster, the next time, the W81 render is 1 second faster. I repeated these tests several times as I was quite surprised that at some point, the newer drivers in W8 got quite a bit better than the last time I checked, which was months ago, in W8 and then there was NO speed improvement over CPU renders, now they are noticeably faster and once again I thank you for suggesting the 570/ebay route.

Which driver are you using for Win8.1? What is you render time for the SCS project in Win8.1?

ok, I just reran all the benchmarks

Windows 7 x64 using Nvidia driver 296.10
Windows 81 x64 using Nvidia driver 332.21
Nvidia 570 card 1.5 mb ram
Intel i5 2500 CPU
Gigabyte MB GA-Z68XP-UD4
16gb Ram
no overclocking

MC Render:
GPU W7=1:06/1:05 (ran it twice)
CPU W7=4:10 (Wow, really?)
GPU W81=1:02/1:06 (also ran twice)
CPU W81=4:14 (Sheesh)

Preview playback from :25 on W7 boot was rock solid at 29.97 throughout
Preview playback from :25 on W81 boot flickered between 28 and 29.97 for 2 seconds then became rock solid at 29.97 to end.

Preview playback at :25 with GPU off was quite bad on both setups from 8 to 10 fps going down to 3 fps at times. What a huge difference in the overall editing experience fast preview makes as I preview all day long and only render occasionally, sometimes only once a week, or when I finish an edit.

I think I know why you have same results for Win7 and 8 although you use different drivers; your CPU and motherboard just can't deliver more information to the GPU. I got down to 33sec. with my previous GTX570 on Win7 with driver 296.10 but that is with a 3930K. In my configuration I can actually "feel" the difference the driver makes; I doubt that Win8 is slower then Win7. Are you sure your GPU is in the correct slot and you don't have any other PCIe card in another slot? All Z68 boards can only handle 1x PCIex16 and will switch to PCIex8 when a second card is installed in a PCIe slot.

I am currently using a GeForce GT 640. Driver version GeForce 332.21.

I am recently experiencing a problem loading a specific .veg file. Not sure if the video driver has anything to do with that or not.
