Render with AC3

I had a previous post on "Render As Q"
I followed the doc .. Vegas rendering settings for a DVD
https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1105/

I'm still a bit confused ...
I select Render Template "DVDArchitect PAL video Stream"

In customize template - there is an audio tab as part of this, and I can select it to 'include audio'
Then under 'system' tab, I have option to 'save as elementary streams' and then I could set it to AC3, bitrate I want etc.

Is there any reason why I should not do it this way ?
instead of running render twice and choosing separate audio template ?
or is the Dolby Digital AC3 template going to use better audio encoder than Main Concept ?

Avoiding recompression

That is correct those options are what I am describing .... my question is ...

Is there any benefit to running template with audio 'on' and select elementary streams, and therefore do a single render.

Or is there benefit as per the document .. and render video first then separately render Audio.

One possible benefit could be if using the Dolby AC3 template uses better AC3 encoder than the MainConcept template (I have no knowledge of this - hence asking)

See if your DVD A Studio tells you Reasons for required recompression - Media is not compliant with the disc format.

This is not at step of using DVD archi5tect yet ... purely question on Render.

I tried separate render of Video and AC3 ........... noticed that teh Dolby AC3 render template is in 2 versions ... with or without AGS and no options.

Is it normal not to be able to set Audio bitrate with AC3 ?

Yes it's normal in DVD A Studio and AC-3 Studio there.
You need AC-3 Pro in DVD A Pro to be able to customize.

Thanks... clears that point ... going back to original Q ..

I have been advised to always create " elementary streams" when rendering ... so will follow that advice.

My question is .. Is there any benefit to running template with audio 'on', select elementary streams, and therefore do this in a single render run.

Or is there benefit as per the document .. and render video first then separately render Audio.

One possible benefit could be if using the Dolby AC3 template uses better AC3 encoder than the MainConcept template.

You originally asked "what should I 'Render as', with the final output to be on a DVD."
Pls experiment with the single render and see what DVD Architect Studio tells you about your audio when you "Make DVD" there.

"Is there any benefit to running template with audio 'on' "
No, there are distinct disadvantages to doing it that way:
Loss of your time.
Loss of quality from re-encoding.
Loss of flexibility to quickly replace an audio track.
The list goes on and on . . .

Follow the instructions and templates as they are, meaning separate, compliant, elementary streams.
