Subject:If You Ever Tried Installing SF4.0 in W2K You May Want To Read This

If you ever tried installing Sound Forge 4.0 in Windows 2000 Professional, you may have corrupted your registry as I believe I did (at least I'm 98% sure).

I had tried (unsuccessfully of couse) to install Sound Forge 4.0d in my Windows 2000 Professional (NTFS) O/S.

I have SF5.0 which is compatable with W2K but thought I might want 4.0 (for some unknown reason...) in addition to it.

Anyway, as soon as I tried loading SF4, I got an error message saying:

"16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
drive :\ program path
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

I simple removed the CD and thought nothing more of it. At least until I tried running some other programs days later, at which time I received the same error message.

It seems that my registry was corrupted by trying to install a 16-bit program, or a program that uses a 16-bit program that is NOT W2K compliant.

The fix is simple. Below are three links that detail how to fix it. The first and second are the same (I used the MicroSoft link) I'm not sure how the jsiinc.com link differs.
