Subject:clicks on playback, but not on file

I am recording on a new Gateway laptop, through the line in with SF 4.5 XP. I always hear pops and clicks when I am playing back the file, but not while recording. I recorded the same way onto my other computer, a dell desktop, without the problem. The only strange thing is that when I copy the files from my laptop onto a cdrw and listen to them on my desktop I don't hear any pops. Also, when I hear the pops on my laptop, they do not always occur in the same place on the song. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried increasing the buffer, decreasing the hardware accelerator, decreasing the audio sampling quality, and nothing has worked.

I am having the same problem but with N-tracks. Sorry I can't help you except to keep your thread near the top.

Adjust the SF buffer to around 512 and other settings that SF recommends for opitmizing your system in the help file.
Defragment your drive(s) and run scan disc. Close all
unnessesary programs running in the background. ie: screensavers, anti-virus app.s ect.

Slunk,

Three questions for you:

1. When playing a file back from your laptop, is the file being read from a CD, or the hard disk?

2. Does the clicking occur with all file types (MP3, WAV, PCA, WMA, etc) and bitrates? Or just some?

3. What kind of chipset does the laptop motherboard use? If it's VIA, what's the model number?

Keep in touch,
Nick LaMartina
