Using Sound Forge XP 5.0 is there any way to edit out a portion of audio where it does not ripple the sound together but simply leave digital black where the edit is keeping the timing of the song intact?

Would using Process - Mute do the trick for you? It won't remove any of
the file, but whatever gap you highlight will then have zero signal (ie. be
silent).

Another way would be to use the Overwrite fucntion. make and copy some Digital black to your clipboard ( a little longer than you need) highlight the section you want to cut, right-click mouse and select "Overwrite"(or Menu- Edit/Paste Special/Overwrite) Other way is to use the mix funtion, But I think the Mute is the best way to go.
