Subject:Sony Acid 10 Compatability

Dear folks, I faithfully purchased Sony Acid 10 as an upgrade from 9 foolishly thinking it would work on my Windows Vista PC. How wrong I was. After using the product and purchasing updates since 7, I now find I paid for a program I cannot install. Thank you Sony for not supporting a valid operating system, or not putting up a big warning for all loyal Vista users. What were they thinking? Have they employed a Tech from Apple? Furthermore I asked Tech Support about this a few days ago and still no response? Please someone help.

Hey Rusty
Sorry to hear it isn't compatible with your OS.
On the product description page under tech specs it says its only compatible with Win 7, and Win 8, 8.1
If I were you i would update to Windows 7 or 8.1. This will solve your problem.

I have Widows 7 64 bit in my studio however Sony Support haven't replied to my question as to weather I can obtain the download again for 64 bit windows as I downloaded it on my Vista 32 bit laptop. I know it is buyer beware but would you have thought Acid 10 would not load on Vista?

?

I don't think it would be an issue. Isn't Studio 10 32-bit? Even if so, I have a few 32-bit apps working fine on a 64-bit machine. You can load any of the SCS apps on a couple machines as long as you're the sole user if I recall.

As for Vista, that ship hasn't got long before it sails. I had to upgrade to Windows 8.1 just so I could pick up Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 myself.

It's not "buyer beware". It's more like "Buyer needs to read the system specs before pulling out credit card".

Sony makes system requirements as plain as day when examining the product on the website. There is NO way you could possibly miss it.

Sony will give you the same answer as everyone else here - install your 32bit download purchase on the Windows 7 box and enjoy. There is NO 64bit version.

And - why are you even discussing Vista if you have an awesome Windows 7 box ready to go? Jeez - I would wipe Vista off that laptop while you are at it and install 7 on that too.

It is not convenient to install Acid on the studio PC as I do nearly all composing on my laptop anywhere any time. Also to fire up the studio every time takes much more electricity hence more power bills. Oh well I will just have to keep using version 9 until this laptop dies, which could be 3 more years as it seems reliable. It is already 7 years old but works as new. Back in the day when Toshiba had money to make reliable laptops. They are coming good again now though. I bought my son an Asus gaming laptop which seems good, 16 gig of ram 8 cores, 3gig graphics and solid state etc, it is fast, reboot time 10 seconds. Maybe that may suit me in future, but I never buy any thing until the one I am replacing dies. Same with cars. I wonder what folks would think if we had to buy a new engine every 5 years as the software to run it was outdated?

Still do not see your point. No one is suggesting you toss your laptop. But we are suggesting you toss Vista - like right now.

Get a copy of Win 7 x64 and install it on there and enjoy your new Acid purchase. Your laptop will feel like a brand new computer. And yes - then use it until you can use it no longer

Finally - if you are just now (in 2014) warming up to the hard fact that computers and recording software are an endless money pit - you probably shouldn't be in this game.

I cannot imagine how anybody is still running Vista, or ever did in the first place unless pre-installed.

I know that doesn't help you much, sorry. Or maybe it could - suggest ditch Vista, you'll be happier all around. And next time suggest read the system requirements first.

I'd run XP or even Windows 95 before I would touch Vista. Windows 7 is better.
