Subject:Is there a VST that can 'just load a sample'?

This might seem like an odd or easy question to ACID pros or longtime users, but being relatively new to the program and how it creates music I can't seem to find information on this (or I am not phrasing it right in search engines): is there such a thing as a VST/VSTi that can 'load a sample' into it as it's output? I like the ability to draw the notes to be played in a MIDI track, similar to FL Studio and other programs, but I wish to change the MIDI input/output from the synthesized source to have it utilize a sample that I can choose. I don't mean a Soundfont bank or anything like that, just a chosen WAV that can be browsed for, so the workflow would be: - draw the notes out in MIDI in a MIDI clip area - choose a Synth that 'loads a sample' as it's source for sound - add effects afterward to the track perhaps Is this possible in ACID Music Studio? Thanks a lot |

There are a number of plugins that could do this, but why would you want to in ACID? ACID can do this for you,and is really what it does. You add the wave file to a track, and then paint it out just like you would on a MIDI track. Unless you have another end result in mind. Peter |

Thanks for the reply, Peter What I meant was, is how you can paint the different notes/pitches in the midi inline editor. In ACID, each track is in fact a sample, but it does not paint the pitch as quickly for each event/note as painting a midi-clip. Do you happen to know offhand the names of any free plugins that can just load a sample to paint? Don't get me wrong, I love how easy ACID is to use, it's just that I meant the type of choosing what pitch the note is like how it is done when a midi clip is created. |

You will need a basic sample playback plugin of some kind. Head over to KVR, and you should be able to find one that fits your price and need. However, if I follow you, a single sample will not pitch shift great using such a plugin. If you just plan on loading a different wave for each note, then you should be able to find something. You need somthing like Kontakt 5 http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/synths-samplers/kontakt-5/ you can sample in a sound, and then later use it as midi. |

Looking back at the OP what Troy was wanting was the equivalent of a chisel and stone tablet to achieve what Word does ! You can't 'play' a VST with a keyboard (well, may or may not be technically possible, but why when there is an alternative simple solution ?), and manually editing the sample for each note would be incredibly tedious. That is why there are VST-i ! What he needs is a sampler implemented as a VSTi, which are not rare. Google found these free ones, and I'm sure there are many more: [link]http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2010/09/28/bpb-freeware-studio-best-free-vsti-samplers/ geoff Message last edited on2/19/2014 8:18:16 PM byGeoff_Wood. |
