Subject:Sound Forge 11. Direct mode? Undo past save?

I am using SF 5.0 (direct mode which was fazed out) and SF8.0 which has undo past save. I just wanted to know before I upgraded on whether SF 11 or even SF10 have a different way of doing this? I use SF as my editor for my DAW so I am sending files to SF for fx and editing etc. Do i still need to press SAVE for the updates to show in my DAW or is there a newer way in the new Sound Forge updates (a bit like direct mode) so that any update or edit shows in my DAW when i refresh? Just thought i'd ask as i stayed at SF8.0 which is a few years old now |

'Recent' versions of Sound Forge (at least 10-11) allowed saving a 'Sound Forge Pro Project File' <.frg> which supports 'undo past save'.. sort of. In any case it's non-destructive and once the editing/processing is done to satisfaction, a file can be rendered or tweaked some more and re-rendered. A minor caveat is, it uses more drive space. I don't recall the direct mode allowing 'undo past save', though I do recall it being faster saving.. but that was a freak'n long time ago and I could be mistaken. Yes direct mode just updated any edit or change to a file without saving and you can undo back.. It was good, but flaky and was dropped. Just wondered if this had been updated with something new on the new v11? |

"Just wondered if this had been updated with something new on the new v11?" Don't really know if it has anything to do with the old 'direct mode'. FWIW, In my findings, a SF project created 10 will open in 11.. but one created (or re-saved) in 11 will not open in 10... BTW, when a 'frg' file is created a companion folder (file name amended w/ _frg) and contains temp files. The number of files and overall size depends on how many edits/process. |
