Subject:CD player won't recognize CD

So I burned the CD using the create CD. I did close the CD so it could play on a CD player. Now the computer recognizes it and the CD Walkman can play it, but the CD player on the stereo system doesn't. Any idea why?

Try burning at 4x or slower. Some CD players won't recognize CDs burned
at faster speeds.

Older CD players won't recognize CDR's and also alot of DVD players. If your CD player does not read your CDR then it probably does not support playing of a CDR. When data is written to a CDR, it is written differently than on a normal CD. Older CD players used a single beam laser pickup, which won't read a CDR. On a CDR the data is written in an "S" shape fashion, where on a normal CD it is written in a straight line. Newer CD players use a 3 beam laser, where 2 of the beams are used to track the edges of the data. Thus, it can follow the "S" shape pattern of a CDR and single beam older CD players can't.

Fascinating though, that my 12 year old Onkyo personal CD player will
play CDR recorded at 16x, and even CDRW media, yet the brand new
Emerson boombox i just bought a few months ago can only read 4x
CDRs and doesn't even see CDRW discs. I'm guessing that with the
cheap price of the Emerson also came inferior quality optics.

That would most likely be correct. There are 3 main factors in CD players that decide the quality and features of a player. The first is the type of optics that are used, the next is the CD-IC chip, which controls everything and makes up how well your cd player plays scratched disks and such. The third is the actual software written for the player. The 2 cost savers in a CD Player are the CD-IC and the Optics, when you buy a cheaper CD player.
