I recently bought a digital voice recorder. I can hook it into my computer through the line in jack. What I would like to know is if there is any way to amplify the voices and dial down the ambiant noise any. Thanks in advance for your replys.

There isn't much you can do. EQ may help a little though. Most voices
have a pretty narrow range (just a couple of octaves), while most noise
is spread all over the audio spectrum. You can try creating a curve in
Graphic EQ that passes only a small range of frequencies. However, if
the range is too small or in the wrong area, the voice will suffer greatly
too.

Try 150 to 600Hz for lower (male) voices and 200 to 1200Hz for higher
(female) voices. This will probably make the voices sound a little nasally,
but it may be better than what you have now. Experiment! ;)

The SF Noise Reduction- 2.0 may help a little, and it aint cheap, but does a great job of attenuating (lowering)constant background din such as air conditioning, distant traffic ect. However it will NOT make something poorly recorded sound good.
