- proDAD mercalli, especially for the steadicam work
- Neat Video
- FBmn WhiteBalance (great plugin, pain in the hole activation/reactivation)
- PluralEyes 2
- Magic Bullet (less and less of it)
- not a plugin, but SetResample script is very handy... and free
You mean besides the obvious ones? I use Sony Track Compression (mild compression) and an equalizer (Sony Parametric Equalizer) all the time. But for third-party, I use Ambience by MagnusSmartelectronix to deliver a concert-hall effect. I've built my own preset and it sounds very natural.
And, of course, DeShaker, which is not exactly a plug-in, but a script on the menu bar. Extremely powerful and flexible and I love the "fill-in" feature.

@set: yes. you need 64 bit versions (you may be able to get the 32 bit to work if your application is 32 bit.... may being the key word.) There are some adapter softwares out there that can bridge from 32 to 64 bit, they do cause additional latency in recording (if that is important).
I noticed a bunch of you posted AAVColorLab. I don't get that one, tried it just didn't see the relevance or usefulness. Am I missing something.... perhaps from the big book of duh.
Excalibur & Pluraleyes for multicamera edits.
Isotope RX2 and Nectar for audio
Not a plugin but very useful for the new sports cameras is ProDrenalin
Mercalli 3.0 for stabilization.
Getting ready to cull the herd of plugins on my machines. Too many of the new blue plugs will freeze Vegas. Have not gotten the hang of the Boris FX ...I used to really like the Magic Bullet Looks plugs that i used in VP9 on my XP machine, but can't afford their prices to upgrade to the 64bit version.
since i mainly do short / long form doco i find excalibur and aav colour lab very useful indeed.
when i need something more i use genarts sapphire
i have numerous other plugins installed, but have no 'favourite' per se since i avoid fx as much as possible and rely mainly on a good script, clean audio (izotope rx) and straight forward camera vision to carry a project along.
- Definitely ProDad Mercalli 3 SAL
- VASST Mayhem (for specific projects)
- NewBlue Video Essentials 1 - 7 in general
- NewBlue transitions
- Sony Color Curves is used extensively
Seems like you and I do similar kinds of productions. I still use a free-lance editor for many projects, but I'm doing more of my own editing recently. I'm on the sharp edge of the learning curve, but just delivered a short project today, and the client didn't cringe... or ask for any changes.
Thanks to all for the plugin suggestions. Now I have to do my homework to try the ones that seem to fit.
I do have Particle Illusion (stand-alone) as well as Htfilm Ultimate, but they are not part of my "must-have" set. That is why I only listed Boris Red and Mocha Pro.
Gotta say I'm surprised by the variety of stuff used by folks. I've never graduated beyond the common Sony plugins and DeShaker. Think I need to go to a re-education camp.
@ riredale - i night have 'em, but it doesn't really mean i need 'em ;-)
for many years, and even now, i find i can pretty much create a good looking video without the use of any additional software (other than ps for titles). vegas's built in fx and transitions are second to none and i rarely find the need to venture outside of them.
