I've read here that SF4.5 will install on Windows XP home. I can't get mine to install. The install wizard gets hung up on a file called "commp3.dll". I've let the wizard run for like 15 minutes and it's stuck on this file and won't go any further, and the remaining time window keeps getting higher. I cancelled at like 450 minutes remaining. Anyway, why does this happen, and what can I do to get my much-loved SF4.5 up and running? Thanks so much for any help. Eric Gaumann |

Try installing in safe mode. If this is happening with the updater file, it may be corrupt. Download it again and then give it a try. |

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately trying the install in 'safe' mode did not work. I'm still getting hung up on that one file. I have to seperate cdr copies of SF4.5 and both get hung up at the same place. I'm not sure about what you want me to d/l. What is it/how do I get it? |

You might want to clean out the temp directories (C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp) and then try it again. The CD-Rs may be corrupted. If that's the case, you'll need an original CD to do the installation. The CD-Rs were for archival purposes, right? The last update for 4.5 (revision H) can be gotten by clicking on the download button at the top of this page. However, it will do no good until you can get 4.5 installed initially. |

No dice. I did a disc cleanup and deleted all the temp stuff. Then I figured I'd try it on the other part of the disc (it's partitioned). One cdr hung up with the usual file, and the other got hung up initializing the 'Wise Install Wizard'. Weird.... I can't imagine it's anything else but corrupted files, although the odds that it'd happen to two discs at once are a bit high. I know for a fact that at least one of those archive discs worked once; saved my ass about 6 months ago. Anyway, kryten, if there's anything else you can think of let me know. I thank you for your help. Eric Gaumann |
