Subject:rebuild peak glitch - "in use by another file" ?????

Whilst its not a debilatating problem, I am experiencing some frustrating behaviour with SF 5.0d.

I edit a lot of large files for CD, commonly taking mp3s of radio programs and chopping out all the ads, talking etc. When I remove a section somewhere from the front half (say cut out 2 seconds 20mins into a 75min file), the remainder of the song past that point gets moved 2 seconds to the left, so its off to get a cuppa cause that takes some time. However, once SF finishs this, it then tells me that:

"another program has used and modified the file - the peak file must be rebuilt" - the only option I have is OK and then that takes another couple of minutes - but it doesn't start till I come back from the coffee making expedition and click OK :(

The only program using the file is sforge, so something is triggering it to think external access. I never experienced this behaviour with sf 4.5, just in 5.

Anyone else experienced this and have any light to shed on the subject? As I said, its not an "I can't work" bug, just annoying in what is otherwise a very useful program.

System: Win2k SP2, NTFS file system, ASUS A7V133, Duron 850 (yeah I'm skint :( ) 728Mb RAM and 2x40Gig Drives.

There is probably a discrepancy in filetimes being reported to Sound Forge. You can override this check in the internal preferences page (Ctrl+Shift+Options->Prefs, Internal page). It is called "Validate Files on Activate", just set it to FALSE.

Sorry for the confusion.

I've experienced the same problem. I'll give this fix a try and hope it works. I've also seen another error, something like "Another application has deleted your file, you'd better save it now or it'll be gone forever." If I ever see that one again, I'll snap a screen shot and send it in to support.
