Media Manager: Phase One Media Pro

Has anyone had any experience with this?
http://www.phaseone.com/mediapro

I'm trying the trial and it seems to work quite well. You can drag from it and drop on the Vegas timeline which is great!

It is $200! But in the VeeHive thread 200 was still considered affordable. BTW I couldn't get VeeHive too work, and I'm not sold on the idea of just using project media with thumbnails. Just dropped Adobe CC so Bridge isn't an option.

What do you guys think?

Pay $200 for something that should be built into Vegas and work properly - I don' t think so.

I am looking for something like this for the video clips but even then it would have to be less than the $200.00 this one goes for.

As you can drag and drop from Bridge - which I do routinely - I'd be very surprised if you can't do likewise from Lightroom.

Lightroom has an extensive library / cataloguing facility. See a comparison here:

http://www.adobe.com/mena_en/products/photoshopfamily/buying-guide-version-comparison.html

I own Lightroom but I don't use it as I have always been a big fan of Phase One's Capture One Pro for processing RAW stills.

Lightroom can be a cheap one-off purchase - you don't have to go the subscription route.

Cataloging can get very complicated very quickly. Be sure you need it before you start it :- )

Didn't know about Lightroom. Of course its much more expensive but you get so much more with it. Even though its a one shot purchase, I'm a little reluctant to continue learning Adobe products right now. The CC just wasn't for me.

I definitely think I need it, and am liking the Media Pro so far. A bit expensive, but its xmas coming up...!

I may try getting VeeHive to work again as well.

Just realized that Media Pro does not work with AVCHD files which makes it useless for half my library.

There do seem to be work arounds, but I'm already doing work arounds to manage all my media. If I'm going to pay $200, I don't want to work around it!

Just to be very very clear about these database systems, daminion- like many others does not support AVCHD file formats directly.

NOTE in importance for some - daminion - is a Russian controlled company - but like many things you can get from there - the price is reasonable and purports to full a valuable gap in products not available elsewhere.

Thanks Joran for that link. Playing with it a little now, and it does support AVCHD files and with thumbnails, so that's great.

And its a better price!

It doesn't give me thumbnails on AVIs but it does import them and let me open them in Windows Media Player.

Unfortunately I won't have time to put this through its paces before the end of the year, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

Cheers
