Yes, it happens to me as well. But not every time. I haven't figured out the pattern yet but it seems Help behaves fine when I have an empty project and only crashes after I've populated the project with media, FX, etc.

VP 12 Build 714.

Thanks Kimberly

Yes it works when I re-opened Vegas with no media. Another really weird thing just happened. I had one project opened and then opened another project, so I had Vegas opened twice. Now the thumbnails in the Project Media bin took the images from the other project that was opened. When I click on a file and open it in the trimmer it is the right clip but the thumbnail image is from another project. Very weird.

Yup I've had it. It comes and goes with versions and Builds. Presently it's fine. At one point I found it necessary to track down the actual HELP file and pop a shortcut on my Desktop. Stoopid, but got my BP down!

People, when you say "crashes" what actually happens? does Vegas just go away or do you get an error message of some kind? Asking 'cause this could be the same as the render dialog bug.
MemoriesFX wrote on 11/17/2013, 3:17 PM
Rainer the program just hangs with the Help window open and you cannot go back to the project.
Kimberly wrote on 11/17/2013, 4:16 PM
In my case it's a hang followed by WFOD. Then I force close or sometimes I just get Vegas Pro Has Stopped Working.

OK, thanks. Does sound like the same issue. It's a programming error, but very hard to track down, not only because it's semi random but by the you get to the call in debug the issue causing the problem has been passed. The workaround is the same: Open a project with only a few seconds on the timeline, call help, then you can close help and open your project - once help has appeared, it will reliably come back.

Funny, my help file started crashing last week out of the blue. Crashed every time I tried it but was working fine earlier the same week.

It's annoying but it's nowhere near as annoying as my Internet Explorer randomly freezing up. This started in June when I got home from overseas and hasn't stopped since. No real solutions on-line as best I can tell. Drives me CRAZY and it's a short trip at that.

Does win Vista/7/8 use a different help system then 95/98/2k/xp? You should be able to open the Help files without launching from Vegas. If you do that and it works fine, that might help identify the issue (I have noticed that if I open the Help from Vegas 10 instead of separately the Help window closes when I exit Vegas.

I don't see how to open Vegas help in Win7 without launching the program.

Must of been Vegas 8 I did that with, I'm not seeing the help file for 10 anywhere.

But... the help file and manual are almost identical, you should be able to search the pdf just as easily as the help file.
