Subject:cd's won,t play

I use SF4.5 and burn with cd arch and cd's that I burn
won't play on my clients newer players in there newer cars. The same disc however will play on older players
and also on win media player. Is there some setting I'm not aware of? My clients need to be able to listen
to reference mixes in there cars since that is where they have the time to do so.
Any ideas what the problem could be?

TRS,

Are you doing anything unusual with your discs (funky indices or track markers)? Are their write surfaces a funky pigment (deep red, black, or blue instead of pale green)? Are they non-standard (half-capacity mini discs or extended 80 min)? Are they CD-RW’s instead of CD-R’s? Are your clients players even certified for playing writable media? The first thing I’d try is to switch the brand of media. Be as general as possible, if you’re not already (pale green-green pigment, 74 min, no labeling, strict Redbook conformity). Keep us updated. I’m interested in hearing what the solution is.

i had the same problem in the beginning. finger prints and smudges will cause this big time. this seemed to clear things up with all except for one player. about a week later that player stopped working. have your clients cleaned thier machines lately?

as for my experience the type of disc seems to make no difference. be it maxell , office depot cheapies and everything in between.

one other thing , it is probably a good thing to burn your discs at 1x or 2x. this also can clear things up a lot.

also, i presume you listen to the completed cd when you are done?

I just posted this response in the CDA forum, but here it is for the SF forum:

I don't think you're missing anything. Some players simply won't play CD-R/CD-RW discs because of the level of reflectivity of the disc (they're not as reflective as a manufactured CD). You may try different brands of blanks and see if any work any better for certain players.

Use CD-Rs specifically for audio and burn as DAO. =
"Disc At Once" Unfortunatly you will not be able to add more songs to the disc later.
And I'm not even sure if CDA has the DAO mode.

Just so everyone is clear about burn mode, CDA *ONLY* burns disc-at-once. They are always finalized then the burn is finished.

One other detail i've discovered is that some players have trouble with
audio CDs that are burned at faster speeds. Even though i have a 16x
burner, i now make all my audio CDs at 4x and this makes them
compatible with many more players.
