beatmatching in Vegas doesn't work!

i was told that Vegas audio includes acid properties like time-stretching or "snap to grid" wich enable you to beatmatch 2 songs on the same tempo (very usefull for mixing techno music).
Unlike Acid pro, the "snap to grid" function doesn't work in Vegas. I saw in the Forum that to do that work, you must record your loop at the right tempo in Acid first and then export it in Vegas project. Not very practical!...
Could anyone help me?

Vegas does not betamap like Acid does. You can timestretch and do a number of other things like ACID, but Vegas is not a substitute for ACID.

Vegas will not *automatically* match tempos like Acid. However, you can manually adjust the tempo, pitch or both by right clicking on the event, selecting Properties and then using the Time Stretch/Pitch Shift Options.

Also, although Vegas doesn't default to snap to grid w/ beats and measures as Acid does, you can also manually set this is Vegas. Go to the Project Properties (File|Properties) and set the Ruler format for Measures and Beats and also set the BPM, etc. Then you can also turn on Snap To Grid under the Options menu and Vegas will work more or less like Acid - bearing in mind that it won't be automatically changing the BPM of the audio events as Acid does.

One other major thing though: the timestretch in Vegas 2 is produces poor audio quality. It's much worse sounding than the timestretching in Acid, which is is absolutely ridiculous! Why on earth Sonic Foundry would NOT implement the same good sounding timestretch algorithms from Acid, in Vegas is incomprehensible and it does lead one to start asking cynical questions (e.g. the want you to buy both programs...).

Reportedly, Vegas Audio 3 will improve the timestretching but anythng short of the standards in Acid will be a major embarassment, IMO. The only solutions are to to the timestretching in Acid (or another program) first and export the files OR use the "Change Length and Pitch" option which sounds good but only works if you can work with it.

So, you *can* beat match in Vegas! I just finished a 76 min. DJ mix that I did entirely in Vegas and the mixes are spot on but I was able to work with Change Length and Pitch option (it works just like a real DJ turntable pitch control). With Vegas I had editing and arranging options that are beyond what Acid could offer.

Hope this helps!
