Below is a back & forth I've had with the CDBaby people. Any input on this matter from the forum would be appreciated. Thanks. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'm encountering an issue with your files that I'm hoping you might be able to assist with. I'm downloading the 320 bit mp3 files. They open just fine in Sound Forge. BUT. If I do anything to the file (normalize, compress, trim etc.), I lose about the last 10-15 seconds of the file. It's simple GONE! Chopped right at the end of the file. An "undo" in Forge restores the original. Have you any idea why this might be happening? I don't experience this phenomenon with files from any other source (Amazon, iTunes etc.). I've even tried to add 10 seconds of silence to the end of the file. No joy there. So to re-jig the file to my requirements, I've got to "record" it in real time from a playback engine on my system. That sucks. Any thoughts? +++ Hello! Thank for writing us! Unfortunately it seems to be an issue with your software that you are using. I would recommend checking the settings and making sure that you are not tapering the track at all. If you have any further questions please let us know ! +++ Thanks for the quick reply. At first glance, it might appear your answer could make sense. BUT. Tapering (or trimming) the track is not the only issue that causes this problem. As I mentioned in my original post, ANY edit function will seem to cause this. That includes normalizing or volume change. POOF! End of file is chopped. I might also buy your argument if this were a universal issue, i.e. happening with ANY and/or ALL files I work on. But it's not so. This only happens with files from CDBaby. I'll bring this issue up with Sony, the current Sound Forge issuer, just to cover the bases. I'll let you know their response. |

What file types are you using and is there a file to try? |

I've had the same problem with M4A files i've purchased from iTunes when trying to convert them to MP3. The workaround i found was to save them as WAV first, then open up the WAV file and save that as MP3. That works fine for me. My guess is that the M4A files have incorrect headers which SoundForge is making use of, while typical media player software probably ignores the headers and plays to the end of the data. |

Thanks for the suggestion. Already went there. No joy. The last 12 seconds of the track is clipped off even in a wav save. Funny thing, the track still has the full running time showing on the timeline. But the waveform is completely gone to flatline. |
