Subject:INCREDIBLY Poor Performance

For some reason the performance of SF crashed today. Can't figure out the problem. I defragmented the Hard Drive, installed updated video driver (nVidia Riva TNT2 card), uninstalled and re-installed SF, and tried editing files on a different hard drive. None of this soleved the problem. It's cripplingly bad. It's taking SF 12 minutes -- that's right, 12 minutes -- to delete a segment of a few seconds from a 50 minute sound file. It usually takes a while (a minute or more) to delete from the start of a large file, but this is nuts. Even to open some files is taking forever (says it's rebuilding peaks, even though sfk files already exist). This problem appeared very suddenly. The only thing that's changed is that I installed new SoundBlaster drivers last week, but that was in order to upload something from DAT, which I then edited without problems. No other programs are having problems. FWIW, I'm running Windows 2000 with a Intel P4 (1.3 GHz, I believe) with Western Digital HDs (7200 RPM -- one 20 GB, one 40 GB). My video card is listed above, and my sound card is a SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1 with Live Drive, 512 MB of RAM. Any suggestions? Either post here or e-mail erics@giftfoundation.org. Thanks. |
