no folders or files in explorer tab vegas 12

Hi there, since the installation of Vegas pro 12 I do no longer see folders or files in the explorer tab. It's completely empty. I already reset all settings to default, un- an re-installed, but the problem remains. In version 11 everything shows alright, so this seems to be a version 12 issue...
Anyone?

I was trying to get stuff to appear in favorite and libraries, that I know is bugged. But I do see regular folders.

I posted about this not so long ago, so yes, it's yet another bug, and intermittent so it's another thing that probably won't be fixed. Tried various things including reinstalling Vegas 12. Everything came back after I did a system restore - why this worked when a reinstall didn't is a bit strange.

In V12 I noticed the explorer tab doesn't F5 refresh. If I make another folder using Windows explorer and copy files into it then go back into Vegas' explorer tab it doesn't show. What you have to do is import media then it refreshes.

Hi Light, this is a different issue, where nothing at all shows in the explorer panel (my refresh works fine without using import media).

Is there any way to get a folder to auto refresh? With Vegas 12 I've added files to a folder outside Vegas but when I click on the folder in Vegas Explorer the files are missing until I click the refresh button. With Acid pressing the F5 button will refresh a folder but Vegas won't even do this. Folders should auto refresh when clicked on in the Vegas Explorer tree.

Just adding my voice. I can't get the Refresh command to work in Vegas 12 either.

It's the little things that make you crazy isn't it? :p

Yes, F5 not work in explorer panel :(

Only refresh when I clic in the refresh icon (the icon with two arrows).

A few days ago appeared empty and unusable.

I can not remember how I got it working again.

But works now... cross fingers.

Just to add another data point: For me, VP12 Explorer isn't empty, but like some others replying to this thread, neither F5 nor the Refresh button will make new files/folders appear in Vegas Explorer when I create a new folder, or move files into an existing folder, outside of VP12 while it is running. I have to close VP12 and re-open it to get the new files/folders to appear.

Today, this problem arised : empty explorer window. No horizontal arrow lines as mentionned here :

Move the explorer window on the right if you have many tabs.
Close this explorer window.
Re open it : the folders and the explorer bar appear again.

I did it several times.

I had this problem. It was pretty pervasive. Occurred almost all the time. Almost every timed I opened Vegas the Explorer window was empty.

Build 726 fixed it for my system. Hasn't come back since in either that build or build 765/770.
No problems now with the empty explorer window.

Was this problem ever sorted? I am currently experiencing it in Vegas 13 and can't seem to find a solution, anywhere.

I just posted some things to try in a similar thread for VP 13. Perhaps one of those will work.

Explorer window is blank in Vegas Pro 13
rcdanek wrote on 2/17/2016, 7:46 AM
For the past week, I have been chasing this. I had upgraded to Windows 10 last year. I hadn't used Vegas since March. So, when I fired it up, I expected it to work but got the empty explorer window problem along with a crash because of an illegal character in some config file. I removed and re-installed to no avail. I then downloaded the Vegas Pro 13 trial and tried it. At some point, I got the illegal character crash message again. So, that went out.

Next, I downloaded the Movie Studio 13 trial. I thought, maybe? ...nope, same problems.

I was reminded in some post somewhere that one could try "Troubleshoot compatibility". So, I did that with the Movie Studio 13 and, after Windows 10 went through its analysis, the program ran perfectly. So, I re-installed Vegas Pro 12, did the troubleshoot compatibility thing on it, and now it works just fine.

So, I skipped Vegas Pro 13 figuring that not much had changed and I might as well wait for version 14. I'll be disappointed if Sony gives up on this program. I tried Catalyst Edit and wasn't impressed. Maybe sometime down the road.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I've been using Movie Studio 13 64-bit for several years now. All the sudden today I open the program and the Explorer window is blank when I select Computer. It will populate with files if I select any other option except Computer. So frustrating.

LAMediaCompany wrote on 2/8/2018, 6:41 PM

Try to check and uncheck the explorer window in the menu "View" or undock the explorer> uncheck> restart > check again. It helpt me a lot in the past with the old Windows OS.

I did all that. It does nothing. I'm also using Windows 10 and have been using Windows 10 since the first day it was installed. The crazy part is that it actually started working for 10 minutes and then right back to an empty Explorer window. I've also noticed that it won't even let me drag and drop files from a Windows Explorer window onto the timeline.

That ended up being a huge mistake. I can no longer get the Explorer window to embed in the program. When I click View>Window>Explorer the Explorer pops up as its own window. It will not go back to being a part of the program. On the positive tip, after uninstalling and reinstalling Movie Studio 13 the Explorer actually lets me access my computer's files again. Now I have a whole other problem to deal with.

Did you read the manual about "Docking" ?

I found another way to fix it. View>Window Layouts>Default Layout

But now I have yet another problem. I can no longer use MP4s downloaded from YouTube. Old videos I downloaded before this problem go into the timeline just fine. Anything I've downloaded since won't. The only solution I've found has been to download the videos from YouTube and then use another program to convert them to an MP4 (even though they're already MP4s). What the heck is going on here? Feels like this program has a self-destruct built into it to get you to upgrade. Any idea what might be going on? I use trailers downloaded from YouTube in a multitude of projects and having to convert each one to use it is a royal pain. Thanks for any help.

Mp4 is only a wrapper with in it different kind of files, but also video and audio.
Those are made by a certain codec and the type of codec must be supported by an edit program like Vegas.
So do you know the videocodec that was used to make the files you cannot open in Vegas?
Look at it with MediaInfo and publish that info if you want help here.
This topic helps you to do that.

Appreciate the reply, but you're missing the point. I used to be able to download videos from YouTube and drop them into a Vegas timeline. Suddenly I have this problem with Vegas and now I can't. Unless YouTube changed its videocodec on the same exact day as I started having this problem, the problem is with Vegas. And I know that's not the case because YouTube would have to go back and do this to every video on the platform. Some of the videos I've downloaded (and wouldn't work) are from years ago. That said, I've humored you and did what you requested anyway. Here's the info for a trailer I downloaded from YouTube that refused to be dropped into a Vegas timeline:

Seems nothing wrong with that mp4 file, so something must have changend your Vegas installation. Sometimes the Windows update can do strange things but this?
I don't see those things in my VMS 10,12,13 and 14 installations.
NB. Better to aske this type of questions in the Vegas Movie Studio forum instead of reacting here on the Vegas Pro forum on Vegas Pro topics.

Like I said, it's definitely something with Vegas. Where is this other forum you speak of? Thank you for all your help and replies.
