Subject:Track breaks deleted after saving

Recently (using SF Pro 10) when I open a file that, when I originally saved it, contained multiple tracks in the same file, the track breaks had disappeared and I was left with one long track. I installed the trial version of SF Pro 11 and it seemed to fix the problem. In fact, files that had previously opened as one long horrifying track had the track breaks miraculously restored. Until today when it started happening with SF11.
Is this a SF glitch? Do I have some preference set incorrectly?
Is it more likely a problem with Windows 7 (or something else unrelated to SF?)
Help!!!! This is really frustrating.

What are you calling "track breaks"? Markers, Regions, CD Tracks, Events, something else?

First, try a Save As... and verify that "Save metadata with file" is checked.

If not, check it and use it for at least one save.

If you are not saving to .wav or .mp3, at some point you must have seen "Unable to save all metadata inside of the file. Would you like to save it in an external file?" Perhaps you clicked "Remember my preference" and then clicked No.

To restore that dialog/behavior, check Options->Preferences->General->Warn when metadata cannot be saved in the file"

As a future alternative, you might consider saving to a Sound Forge project file instead of always re-rendering to a media file, particularly if your ultimate destination is a CD.

Very interesting. "save metadata with file" was checked.
I do save as .wav files (occasionally .mp3) and have never gotten the "unable to save all metadata..."
Checked in the O>P>G>Warn when metadata cannot be saved... and it was checked there too.
But, saving it as a project file worked!!! Thank you so much!!!
However, I'd still like to know why it suddenly started doing this. Also, all my old files that have multiple tracks still only open as one long track. I'd hate to lose all that work to this glitch. Any thoughts on that?
You've been extremely helpful. I'm off for the weekend but will check in again on Monday. Many thanks.

Hi J-
I think I just solved my problem.
It seems that when I open a file, if the "Open as CD tracks" box is checked, it will open a file that contains multiple tracks as one long track. If I uncheck the box, it opens it as multiple tracks. Seems counter intuitive to me, but at least it seems to be working.
Phew!
Thanks again so much for your help and time. I really appreciate it.

Thanks as was also having trouble with missing regions after save. Used the "Save To File" option.
