All I get is a couple express fx like a graphic eq---where are all the neat ones I got with Music Studio 8? Like Track Eq and Multitap Delay?

It sounds like you have a few issues that are pretty common with Sony legacy installations.

1. To hear your recording track, enable input monitoring on the track you are recording. It's a little dropdown menu under the INPUT icon on the track.

2. for your effects, you will probably have to clear the plugin cache and let the software rebuild the cache when you start up.

This usually works:

You need to find this file

acidpro.plugincache

It's an XML file and is hidden so you may need to enable viewing of hidden folders/files in your search parameters

Once you find it, delete it. This is basically the information that tells ACID what plugins are there and it stays in your system even if you delete and reinstall ACID which is why you sometimes end up with duplicates etc as it keeps getting added to and a reintsall of ACID doesn't fix it.

make sure all of your VSTs are in c:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns

Now restart ACID. Since it can no longer find acidpro.plugincache it will rescan c:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns and totally refresh the plugin lists and create a new acidpro.plugincache with all the current details.

Awesome advice--thx! That got all my custom fx straightened out,. But for Sony, I still only have a few ExpressFx and no Direct Fx like "Multiband Dynamics" or "Multitap Delay" which are promised on the Sony Acid Pro 7 homepage.

In my other computer I opened Music Studio 8, clicked on "Multiband Dynamics" and found the file: sfppack2.dll .

How can I find what I need to copy this file into my new computer and Acid Pro 7?

Your issue may be that ACID Pro is still a 32-bit application and ACID Music Studio is a 64-bit application.

Why does this matter?
Well, it's because the VST folders are probably in different places. For Music Studio it is probably in the "normal" place if you are on a 64 bit OS, and for ACID Pro it is going to be in the (x86) folder set for Windows which is where 32 bit apps go on 64 bit systems.

In general, you can just copy and paste those VST .dll files into the appropriate folder and be fine OR you can tell ACID to scan multiple locations for VST's. By following the directions above, however, ACID should have done it pretty much automatically. It could be that your particular effects are 64 bit...and won't work in PRO because it is still a bloody 32 bit app (unfortunately)

That's good to know, Peter. i guess I assumed it was a 64 bit app because it is 10x more stable than ACID Pro on my 64 bit system. Since Sony has abandoned ACID Pro, those of us that have used ACID since the beginning are left with two poor choices. One is to switch to ACID studio, losing some great features like Groove quantize, etc... in order to have a stable host for things like KONTAKT 5, or we can use the Pro version which has some great features but crashes every time you use advanced VSTi's like Superior Drummer or KONTAKT. Since Sony has abandoned ACID, can't they at least issue a stable, 64 bit version of the Pro software as an update?

Ok, I finally got Sony Multiband Dynamics VST to load by demo-ing Sound Forge. Then I deleted SF cuz it took 2 GB (which didn't come back btw), and now my fav Guitar cab VST, keFIR_v1.dll is now in the "Unavailable" file, along with a bunch of other Sony fx like Chorus, dist, etc. !!!!

So I deleted the acidpro.plugincache.xml file and rebooted, and these fx still won't become available. HELP!!!!!!
