Subject:Using a tablet or ipad as bus controller?

I am using a desktop with Windows 7-64. Since the very beginning of my studio I have always wanted a bus controller to work the mixing console in Acid. I tried one of those M-Audio slider controllers but it wasn't compatible. I began thinking about getign a touch screen and mounting it flat into my table and extend my desktop onto it, but they go for rediculous amounts of money to where I should just go buy a Mackie and get it over with. Now I see everyone walking around with these ipads and Windows tablets. Is there any way I can set one of them up so I can control the mixing console with one of them? Odd that the M-Audio controller wasn't compatible; you can usually set up and assign a generic controller in ACID as long as MIDI is involved. I would just get a MIDI controller of some sort. I can't recall offhand of any way to interact with DAW hosts; the only things I've seen are "mobile" versions of their desktop DAW counterparts and using a tablet as a controller in a VST like Spectrasonic's Omnisphere. |

A MIDI controller runs $2100, a tablet is $200. Aside from it just being a $60 paper weight, the M-audio controller doesn't respond to automation as it's just analog faders and no servos. I found almost all M-Audio hardware is not compatible with Acid. Their controler, their M-Box and their I/O rack. They are owned by mac and that's what they want people using with their macs and pro-tools. Message last edited on9/10/2013 10:47:09 AM bydeadbandman. |

A friend of mine just suggested I buy the Slate Raven MTI. Haaaa ha ha. Yeah, I'm going to buy a board that cost more than my chevy suburban. |

What do you want to do exactly? Just control faders and the like in ACID Pro's Mixing Console? Most inexpensive MIDI controllers have assignable knobs and sliders that you can configure ACID to recognize (should you take the time to do so, that is, but it's not exactly hard or time consuming either). |

OK my bad. It was the Korg Nanokontrol USB that was not compatible. http://www.pssl.com/!6BcdUP2vhUiVWwWvfH-4uA!/Korg-NANOKONTROL-USB-Fader-Transport-Controller I was a controller that responds to automation. But I'm not going ot spend more than a couple hundred bucks to have it. All the controllers I know of that do what I want are expensive in my book. Please post links to what you're talking about. This is what I was specifically referring to, but I need to know if it's compatible with Sony Acid. http://www.humatic.de/htools/touchdaw/ Message last edited on9/13/2013 4:23:21 AM bydeadbandman. |

TouchDAW states Vegas /ACID support. I have not tried this one, but in general, and surface tool that supports the MCU protocol should work. Ymmv. Peter |

I've been using a Korg nanoPAD with ACID with no problems. (I could even use it's touchpad to assign whatever it is I wanted.) Whenever you use a MIDI controller that doesn't have external control out of the box, you have to add a generic control (via Options > Preferences > External Control & Automation) and have ACID "learn" the functions on your controller. Ahh, I remember TouchDAW now. For some reason, I totally forgot about it. Like Peter said, it should work. I imagine that since it uses your network, it will all depend on the speed of that network. Having your desktop setup with Ethernet (wired) while controlling via Wi-Fi with TouchDAW will probably be optimal. |
