Dual AMD 1700 specs Tyan S2460

Just finished doing my yearly hardware upgrade and decided to do a quick render with vv3 in mpeg2 before hitting the sack.

System
Tyan s2460
2 Amd XP 1700's
512 Reg Ecc Pc 2100
Ati AIW Radeon
2 IBM 60 Gig
Fasttrack 100 TX ( Benchmarked Twice what my abit raid board did )
DV500
Pyro Firewire
SB Live
Intel Nic

Rendered 2:14 of DV footage to Mpeg2 DVD in 5:33. Looks like a little over a two to one ratio. Not too bad. BTW... Board was REAL EASY to setup. Its running stable even with the amount of picky cards I have running on it ( Sb Live, Dv500 & AIW ). 6 hours from parts to a loaded system ( It took a week to get my Abit Kt7 Raid running stable lol ).

What sort of speedup are you getting from 2 CPUs for the MPEG2 rendering? Are both CPUs at close to 100% utilization?

What OS did you go with ?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure he is using W2k or WinXP. That's the only two OS you can use to benefit from dual processing and DV500.

I have Win 2K loaded. Pinnacle 3.0 DV500 Drivers do not work for me. Here is quick rendering comparison.

2:14 of DV footage...

App CPU Usage TIME

VV3 46-50% 5:33
CCE SP 262 47-63% 2:57

I am surprised that VV3 is not utilizing more than 50% of CPU usage. Comments Anyone?

Could you time pre-rendering with default settings a 10 second linear cross fade of a vegas captured NTSC DV .avi files?

Thanks,

L

If you guys are benchmarking render times, please be aware that Vegas field renders crossfades, and Premiere does not.

Does MSP field render crossfades?

Can Vegas be set to do a progressive render of crossfades for a better comparison.?

What other type of render would be good to compare MSP and/or premiere to Vegas?
Reanimator wrote on 1/4/2002, 5:22 PM
My intention here was not to compare premier vs VV3. I'm sold on VV3 lol... What I was trying to show was what kind of render times you could expect from a higher end system. I threw the CCE results in because quite a few folks use it and it claims to be multi-processor optimized. Comparing VV3 to a $4000.00 mpeg encoder would be anything but fair.
