Subject:Cursor stops 2-3 secs later than the point I stop

When recording large files. After a current recording is stopped (double escape hit after recording) I use the JKL buttons to move the cursor. When I stop with K, let's say at 01:05:20 it actually stops later, say @ 01:05:23.

This is unfortunate since I will always have to stop 3 seconds before I actually want to stop so the cursor falls into correct place before next recording.

Please fill our your system specs in your user profile.

What audio hardware are you using?

What audio driver model - Mappe, Wave Classic, ASIO - are you using?

Peter

I'm using the digi002 Digidesign external soundcard and the audio driver model is set to Wave Classic.

I don't have the specs of the computer at hand but it has a intel quad core of at least 2,5GHz, 8GB ram, 120GB SSD C drive and 1TB D drive.

If you use the built in audio of your machine, does the problem persist?

There some known issues with the digi drivers, but this has typically been with ASIO only.

Problem is, when I directly use the Digi driver, I can't see the cursor in playback. Therefore I use the Wave Classic. Maybe I just need to buy a new soundcard?

I don't have access to the computer at the moment, but if the problem persists when I use the built in audio card, what can I do? You must be right though, it could be the digi soundcard.

You can add me to the list of having this same problem. My system profile is now filled in and I have a few things more specific to my situation.

When I select the "Scroll Playback" option there is no problem at all. The scrolling keeps up in sync with the audio perfectly and there is no problem with the cursor. It's only when I have the "Seek cursor on playback" selected by itself.

Secondly, when I used Sound Forge 10 under the same OS (Win8 64-bit) I never had any problem like this. I also have Acid Music Studio 9 on the same machine which has never had this problem. It only started when I installed SF Pro 11.

Btw, I'm using the Classic Wave driver which I've always used in my setup, but I've have tried the Microsoft Sound Mapper which makes no difference.

@cyberbeat

To be clear, you are having the end position of the cursor stop at the wrong place when using JKL scrubbing?

If not, please describe the problem you are seeing. Step by step would be helpful.

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,
In my case, I use the spacebar to start playback and ENTER to pause and the cursor doesn't stop at the location where I hit pause. It's always a little before or after. I have unchecked the option "Spacebar and F12 play/pause instead of play/stop". So, that's not the problem. It's like the OP described, the playback cursor is not in sync with what I'm hearing through my audio device(s). It doesn't matter which device I use. They all behave the same way.

I've been attempting to reproduce the behaviors described in this thread without luck.

I'm using a Digi 003 Rack with the standalone drivers v9.0.7 on Win8x64 with Forge 11 build 234. I'm running the Wave Classic drivers.

I recorded about an hour of audio into Forge and then scrubbed, hitting "M" & "K" simultaneously to set a marker and cancel the scrub. In all cases, the cursor landed on the marker and the marker was placed precisely where the cursor was sitting when I stopped playback. Disabling scroll options and using space/enter didn't change this behavior either.

Attempting to use a different audio interface (an onboard Realtek codec) didn't change this behavior, either.

Do either of you have any other hints that might help me reproduce this issue?

With me, it occurs when I am zoomed in on the wave form. The more I zoom in during playback the worse it gets. But as I said, if I turn on scrolling of playback it'll keep up with the wave form no matter how far I zoom in and stop at the exact location like it should. With out the scrolling it does not.

The other thing is that it doesn't matter if it's something I've just recorded, or a file I've loaded or the file format, sample rate, bitrate, etc. Nothing seems to change this strange behavior.

I found a fix for this problem

By going to Options -> Preferences and the Display tab, I set the Standard Zoom to 1:256. That fixed this issue.
