Premiere User Considering Switch

Hi-

I have read great things about Vegas 3. I downloaded the trial today. My motivation is to have a desktop and laptop solution.

Right now I am on Premiere/Canopus Storm Card. Both are great, but for desktop only.

My first look at Vegas is very confusing. Making a simple cut on the timeline does not seem to exist as it did in Prem (obviously, but...). I have not even gotten to transitions yet.

My question is, are there any former Premiere users that get me thinking in the "Vegas" way and help me through the transition.

Thanks.

you want to cut a movie-clip into pieces? simply move the timeline to the position where you want to cut the clip (use the mouse and/or the left/right-arrow-keys) and press "S" (slice). simple a that.

As far is I remember you need two tracks for transitions in Premiere. In Vegas simply move the two clips over each other on the same videotrack. you will get an auto-crossfade on the overlapping area. Now either drag & drop the transition-type you want from the menu at the bottom to the cross-fade-area or use the right mouse-buttom on the crossfade and choose the transition from the context-menu. If you want a Premiere-like transition on two tracks, you can click the "expand track layers"-option on the left side of the video track (under the minimize/maximize track height buttons)

hope that helps.
