I have a Sony Vaio P4 with 512mem

I have a band called Keddah and we are planning to record our own demo with vegas or sonar.

Do I need a better soundcard (yamaha AC-XG)?
If so what kind?

What type of (track splitter)I'm guessing it is it's own hardware profile. I would like to record up to 8 tracks at once (drums).

I would go with a much better sound card. I use the Aark24 (8 1/4-inch ins and outs).

As far as multiple tracks go, you will want to use Vegas for that. Sound Forge won't do multitrack recording.
