Subject:Paste to New issue in SF 11

I tried to give SF 11 a shot, but I can't get past step two in my workflow. For almost every file I edit, I take smaller pieces out of a larger audio file and edit/save them. To do this, I highlight the piece I want and CTRL+C then CTRL+E to paste it into a new file. When I do this in SF 11, I get a blank audio file. Then when I close it and go back to my main window, I can still see the waveforms, but don't hear any audio. I have to restart SF 11 completely to get audio playback to happen again. I can't use SF 11 at all if Paste to new doesn't work. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

If my explanation isn't clear, here is a screencap video detailing the issue: http://db.tt/b5fl8AGb

I've not seen this, but the symptoms seem to indicate that something funny is happening when the file is read (no waveform, no playback).

Anything interesting about your media drive (networked, raid, etc.)?

Does it happen if the media files are relocated to your root drive?

You might check View->Clipboard->Contents after copying to see if the audio actually made it to the clipboard.

If a previous version of Forge is still installed, it might be helpful to try that with the same files.

P.S. If you don't like or use the overview bar, you can always hide it in Options->Data Window->Overview (then select Set as Default).

I can't replicate this behavior either.
I would try changing the 'Temporary files and record folder' (Options> Preferences> General)
Unless it has something to do with the demo mode..

Thanks for the ideas.

Drive is local and internal. I tried it on audio from the root drive, and I get the same behavior.

I've been using SF 10 on this rig with no issues for a couple of weeks now, so this is new to SF 11.

There is audio on the clipboard when I copy, and the blank audio file is exactly the right length, just no audio and no audio playback on anything after I paste to new.

I tried eliminating my shortcut macro keypad (I use an old "gaming" keypad which allows me to program key macros and access them quickly, speeds up my process tremendously). The first time I used just the point-and-click menus, paste to new worked. Then I tried CTRL+E on the keyboard and it worked too. Then I went back to the keypad, which just macros out CTRL+E and I get the error. Restart SF 11, try the menus and I get the error. Now the menu version of Paste to new doesn't work, nor does using strictly the keyboard shortcuts or my macro keypad. I thought I was onto something by eliminating the macro pad, but no dice.

rraud, I tried changing the temp folder. Again, no dice.

I'm assuming at this point I'm the only one experiencing this error. Nobody else in my office can replicate it either. Which is a real bummer.

Tried to repro as well and couldn't.

Maybe it's a video card/video driver issue that your setup is exploiting? Out of curiosity, did you try a different/newer driver or even a different video card?

I'll check drivers next. The machine is fresh from our IT department's config, which should've included updated drivers. I still have to make money while I test this out, so tinkering will have to wait until after hours. Back to SF 10 for now.

Keep the ideas coming. I really appreciate the input.

Do you have a separate and unique TEMP file location for SF11 ? I implement this scheme for each of my audio apps now.

Geoff,

Yeah, SF 11 is in it's own temp folder and completely separate from my other audio apps.

No problem here; [Ctrl+C] then [Ctrl+E] works as expected; no fancy Temp folders; default installation.

Much as I hate to make blanket suggestions, I think an uninstall/reinstall of SF11 is actually merited here.
