Subject:can't smoothly play 48kHz file

When playing back a 48kHz audio file in SF Mac, the sound drops out and skips every couple seconds. If I convert to a 44.1kHz file, it plays back ok. So seems like my Mac is outputting 44.1k and SF isn't converting to the proper output when playing back. Any ideas? Is this a SF or Mac issue? Never had this issue with SF on a PC.

I'm on a 2009 MacBook Pro, OS X 10.8.4, 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, w/8 GB RAM, using the built in sound driver.

Is forge indicating that it is resampling when playing back at 48?

Is this simple playback, or are any FX involved?

Thanks for the response. No SF isn't indicating any resampling and there are no FX involved. Just opening a 48k file and hitting play.
