My boss is getting the elevated privileges error in SF 10 Pro on her Windows 8 machine, so I'm forced into testing out SF 11 Pro for our organization. So far, it's only crashed on me once. (sigh). I finally figured out how to change my audio I/O. Although it is not intuitive in the least, I like it better than the SF 10 routing matrix. However, after make changes and hit, "Apply," all of the channels in the Windows Classic Wave Driver are listed as "ERROR." It won't let me change it again and I have to exit out of the preferences dialog. I exit out, and go back in again, some of the channels are still listed as "ERROR," the other channels have sources assigned, but the list seems to repeat until all 32 channels are filled. I've recorded a screencapture of this problem. It can be downloaded from http://db.tt/sDnKHyZx I just got a new system and haven't updated my specs yet. They are as follows: PC: HP Compaq 8300 Processor: Intel i3-3220 @ 3.30GHz RAM: 12 GB OS: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit Attached Interfaces: Behringer UCA202, M-Audio Producer USB microphone Rob. |

I have an idea what is causing this. Your video helped. It looks like your high definition audio device is being presented twice. If you could try the followng: With Forge not running: Go into windows audio output configuration. Look for entries that have High Defintion Audio. One should may be the default audio output and the other will not be. Disable one of these, most likely the non enabled one or the one that appears later in the list. Start Forge. Does the problem still occur? Thanks Peter |

Peter, Thanks for spotting that. Turns out, that secondary HD audio device (seemed to be feeding an onboard mobo speaker) was also causing a "device in use" error when I opened Sound Forge 10. I've been fighting it since I moved over to this new Windows 8 machine. This also cleared up the behavior I was seeing in SF 11. Two birds, one stone. I'll start putting SF 11 through its paces tomorrow. You're a gentleman and a scholar, as always. Rob. |

Glad to hear it. We ran into it - well I did - during development of Forge 11, and it baffled me for awhile. We are looking for why only on Win8 and if there is some fix with out the external system setting change. Looking forward to your feedback on Forge 11. Peter |
