SF is my audio editor for VMS12 Plat. Today I tried to open a clip in SF from MS (Ctrl+E), but when SF opened, I got a message saying that the format is not supported. I recorded the footage on a Canon Vixia HF-S200 using the FP24 setting at FXP quality (1920x1280). Any ideas? |

Do you "need" to open your source video in Sound Forge? If not, just open the audio track. Or, render to a video format Sound Forge understands. |

MVS 12 PLatinum, SF Studio 10 designated audio editor. I have been spending the day in concentrated self-instruction and have refined the issue. In response to your reasonable question, not at the moment, but I can uses down the line, and since this handy symbiosis is built in, why not learn how to use it? I found that if I used "open a copy in audio editor", the file opens just fine. That's one mystery. The next, however, is that as I open the file copy in SF, a wav file appears in the project media window. Then, even if I don't edit anything in SF or use "save as," when I close SF, my video preview has disappeared and "Project media is offline" appears in a blank purple audio track. Apparently, MS now considers my project "offline," and I have to switch to another active application then back to MS to bring it back "online" to restore preview and the wav form. (I had this preview problem when I was first starting with MS and have seen others with it as well; I wonder if this was the cause.) "Offline" is not in MS Help's vocabulary, and I am trying to understand what's happening here. What does it mean? Is there a setting to prevent it or make it automatically return to online? One more thing: MS guide says that a clip that has been taken into the trimmer window can also be opened in the audio editor. In my case, open an event into the trimmer window, but there is no "open a copy in audio editor" and the open command results again in the un-suppported media message. I am just trying to get a good grasp on the basic workings of the application while I memorize keyboard shortcuts, figure out the variations of slipping and sliding, and get some facility in editing flow. I appreciate any help you and others can lend. |

Always "open copy" in Sound Forge, never the original file. The first will save as a new take, the second will perform a destructive edit. I've had Sound Forge for over twelve years, and I can't remember the last time I thought is was necessary to open the video with audio. Maybe twelve years ago? Sound Forge does not support opening all video files, and I wouldn't be of much help troubleshooting that. Vegas is set to leave media offline when it is not the active application, and I would leave it that way. Message last edited on7/13/2013 5:55:07 PM bymusicvid10. |
