Subject:Importing 32 bit wav files?

I'm trying to open wav files in Sound Forge Audio Studio version 10.0, and I'm getting an error message that says "the file contains an unsupported sample format (32-bit integer)." The files are the standard wav format created by Mixcraft 6.

Any ideas on how I can open these files in Sound Forge? Do I have to save them as a different format in Mixcraft? I know I can do that, but I'd like to use Sound Forge as the default third party editing software in Mixcraft, so that it opens files automatically, and it's an extra couple of steps to resave each wav file in a different format.

Thanks!

I don't know why Sound Forge wouldn't let you open 32 bit integer bit depth, unless it's a limitation of Audio Studio?

Does your Mixcraft software allow you to save as 24 bit? Does that make a difference?
Post your complete Mixcraft file properties using MediaInfo from Sourceforge.

It looks like the default wav format in Mixcraft 6 is 32 bit, 44Hz. The "what's new in Sound Forge" blurb in the help documentation says that Sound Forge supports 32 bit, 44Hz files. But it apparently won't open them.

I would be grateful if anyone knew how to figure this out, because I'm thinking of giving up on Sound Forge meanwhile...

Thanks!

What did your response from Tech Support suggest ?

Haven't seen those file properties yet, either.
Uploading a sample somewhere would be a big help, too.

I will venture a guess that these are 32-bit PCM (integer) files rather than 32-bit (IEEE Float) files, which are identical, resolution wise to 24-bit PCM.

Probably an Audio Studio limitation. Sound Forge Pro should have no problem with them. You might download a demo and try it.

32 bit integer files shouldn't be a problem on Audio Studio, but we'll never know unless we see those MediaInfo properties and a sample file . . .

Thanks for your help, musicvid10--I appreciate it.

I wasn't familiar with MediaInfo, but I have downloaded the program and opened a sample file. Here is the info from the sample file, which is in the default export format for Mixmatch 6. It comes from a simple rhythm guitar file I recorded live through a Firepod ASIO. However, I get the same error message using pre-recorded loop files that come from Mixmatch, purchased wav files I've edited in Mixmatch, etc:

General
Complete name : C:\Users\Robert\Documents\Mixcraft Projects\Mixcraft Project 4\14 Audio Track-1.wav
Format : Wave
File size : 25.7 MiB
Duration : 2mn 32s
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 1 411 Kbps

Audio
Format : PCM
Format settings, Endianness : Little
Format settings, Sign : Signed
Codec ID : 1
Duration : 2mn 32s
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 1 411.2 Kbps
Channel(s) : 1 channel
Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz
Bit depth : 32 bits
Stream size : 25.7 MiB (100%)

I've uploaded the file itself via Hightail (until this week, the company was called YouSendIt)---it can be downloaded here:

There is nothing at all unusual about your file except that it is 32 bit integer instead of 16. Opens fine in Sound Forge Pro.

Suggest you open a tech support ticket with Sony, along with the MediaInfo readout and link you provided.

Do let us know what you find out from Sony.

Thanks for the time, folks! Here's the reply from Sony tech support--too bad.

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

Sound Forge Pro supports 32 bit and 32 bit floating point files, however the audio studio version supports 32 bit floating point only. I recommend downloading the trial of Sound Forge Pro.
