Subject:Problems with Sound Forge 5.0e build 248

Hi all,

yesterday i recognized that i am out of date with my version of Sound Forge (was still using 5.0d), so i downloaded version 5.0e build 248 and installed it (WinXP Pro). Is this only me or do others have the same problem: I cannot start SF anymore. The splashscreen schows up and it scans for the plugins but after that it shuts down (after opening the main window for a really short time (it just flashes up and disappears...).
I deinstalled SF and made a blank install but it's always the same.
I contacted SF-support but did not get an answer right now.
After several installs and updates my SF does not want to register anymore... :o(
Let's hope that the techies will contact me soon... there are only 59 days left for evaluation! *LOL*

Greetings,
Marco

Marco: I'm using the same version of SF that you are with Windows XP Pro and am not "aware" of any serious problems - yet.

I don't know if this will help, but at least until SF tech responds, I ran into a similar problem that was only resolved after I used the install disk from SF 5.0d to run ITS uninstall, rather than the uninstall in Windows control panel. According to SF that shouldn't have made any difference, but after I used the original disk with the uninstall option, I was then able to reinstall 5.0d and then 5.0e.

Thanks for your advice, sk, but this did not fix my problem. After all SF resetted my serialnumbers and I am again going with older version (they already do satisfy me).

Marco

So Marco, you were never able to get everything working with 5.0e?

Hi Marco,

I had/have the same problem with Sound Forge 5.0e (Build 248) on Windows XP Professional (Dutch version) 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclient.010817-1148). Every time I start Sound Forge it scans for new plug-ins and wham, Sound Forge window close. No sound Forge for me anymore, well I have a solution which works for me.

I also use Batch Converter 5.0a (Build 146), Vegas Video 3.0 (Build 76) and ACID PRO 3.0e (Build 329). Batch Converter, no problems. Vegas Video and ACID PRO give me the following error in a message box:

An Error Occurred starting Vegas Video (or) ACID.
The reason for the error could not be determined.

After clicking the Ok button in the error message box I can use both programs.

The solution now for me is that on the icon properties I select compatibility tab and in compatibilitymode (I assume this is the English name) I select Windows 2000 and voila, everything works ok. Now Sound Forge starts, Vegas Video and ACID PRO starts without warning. So far everything works ok for me.

Regards,
Diederick.

Hi Diederick,

your method sounds very interesting and plausible! I will try this today and post my experiences with this workaround. Thanks for a really helpful hint!!!

Regards,
Marco

P.S.: BTW, wasn't 5.0e and 3.0e supposed to be the first official XP-Releases? *grin*

Diederick - you did it!

Thanks for your advice - now I can play around with ACID PRO 3.0e and SOUND FORGE PRO 5.0e. Everything works okay now (that's my first impression).
Hope SF's techies will read this and take care of this issue.
Let's wait for version f! ;o)

Thanks,
Marco
